Job Purpose

To lead Nedbank’s Equity Capital Markets (ECM) business by leveraging established C-Suite relationships, providing strategic leadership and oversight, and driving the origination, structuring, execution and distribution of equity-related transactions. The role is accountable for developing and executing Nedbank’s ECM strategy in partnership with Corporate Finance, building a sustainable deal pipeline, strengthening client relationships and delivering profitable growth, while ensuring sound governance, risk management and regulatory compliance.

The incumbent will work closely alongside Corporate Finance, Coverage, Markets, Debt Capital Markets and sector teams to provide integrated capital raising solutions that support client growth, shareholder value creation and Nedbank's strategic objectives

Job Responsibilities

Strategy and Business Leadership

• Develop and execute the Equity Capital Markets strategy aligned to CIB, Investment Banking and Corporate Finance objectives.

• Identify market opportunities, emerging trends and sector opportunities to position Nedbank as a leading ECM franchise.

• Drive revenue growth, market share expansion and profitability through strategic client engagement and transaction execution with key CIB Clients.

• Contribute as a member of the Corporate Finance leadership team, supporting strategic initiatives and business planning.

• Build and maintain a sustainable ECM pipeline across key sectors and client segments.

Origination

• Leverage existing c-suite relationships to originate ECM transactions.

• Lead origination of equity capital raising opportunities including IPOs, rights issues, secondary placements, accelerated book builds, equity-linked transactions and strategic equity raises.

• Act as senior advisor to executive management teams, boards, shareholders, sponsors and investors.

• Partner with relationship managers and sector teams to identify and convert opportunities.

• Develop long-term client relationships that enhance Nedbank’s wallet share and strategic positioning.

• Identify cross-sell opportunities across Corporate Finance, DCM, Markets, Sustainable Finance and broader CIB offerings.

Transaction Structuring and Execution

• Oversee end-to-end execution of ECM transactions.

• Lead transaction structuring, valuation considerations, pricing strategies, marketing approaches, regulatory approvals and investor engagement.

• Provide expert guidance on capital structures, shareholder strategies and market positioning.

• Coordinate internal and external advisors including legal counsel, auditors, sponsors, exchanges, regulators and investors.

Financial Performance and Revenue Growth

• Accountable for revenue generation and profitability of the ECM portfolio.

• Manage budgets, forecasts and business performance metrics.

• Drive achievement of financial targets through disciplined origination and execution.

• Monitor pipeline conversion rates and transaction profitability.

• Optimise resource allocation and operational efficiency within the ECM function.

Job Responsibilities Continue

Stakeholder and Market Management

• Build and maintain relationships with institutional investors, asset managers, private equity firms, listed and unlisted corporates, regulators, exchanges and external advisory partners.

• Represent Nedbank in industry forums, client engagements, conferences and capital markets events.

• Enhance Nedbank’s reputation and market profile within the equity capital markets ecosystem.

• Establish strong working relationships with internal stakeholders across Investment Banking and broader CIB.

Risk, Governance and Regulatory Oversight

• Ensure all transactions comply with applicable regulatory and governance requirements.

• Maintain adherence to internal credit, compliance, legal, risk and conduct standards.

• Oversee transaction approvals and ensure robust governance processes are followed.

• Monitor market, reputational, operational and execution risks.

• Ensure appropriate controls and risk mitigation frameworks are embedded across the ECM value chain.

People Leadership and Talent Development

• Build and lead a high-performing ECM team.

• Provide coaching, mentorship and career development opportunities.

• Drive succession planning and talent management in line with IB requirements.

• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation and client-centricity.

• Champion diversity, inclusion, transformation and Nedbank values.

• Lead employee engagement and capability development initiatives.

Innovation and Market Leadership

• Drive innovation in equity financing solutions and execution processes.

• Leverage data, technology and digital enablement to enhance client outcomes.

• Monitor global and domestic ECM trends and emerging capital market developments.

• Promote thought leadership and market insights across clients and stakeholders.

• Identify opportunities to expand equity capital raising capabilities across Africa and strategic growth markets.

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

  • Professional Qualifications/Honour’s Degree

Preferred Qualification

MBA, CA(SA), CFA or Master’s Degree in Finance or Economics

Minimum Experience Level

• 10 years’ experience within Equity Capital Markets, Corporate Finance, Investment Banking or Capital Markets Advisory.

• Demonstrated track record in originating and executing complex equity transactions.

• Proven experience engaging with executive leadership teams, boards, investors and regulators.

• Significant leadership experience managing teams and developing talent.

• Proven commercial and strategic leadership capability.

• Preferred: experience leading a recognised ECM franchise, strong investor network and established market relationships, and Pan-African capital markets experience.
