Area Manager Cargo

Direct operational responsibility for service delivery performance for cargo warehouse, freighter ramp and road feeder services at stations within a Africa Region. Responsible for managing locally based Etihad Cargo teams – internal and external - via implementation of effective SGHA/SLA and KPI monitoring ensuring that service delivery standards and achievement of procedural compliance is maintained across the area and well aligned with commercial expectations and product development.

Accountibilities:

  • Lead and establish best practices to ensure all flights are maximized to their capacity and conduct review of processes and procedures for improvement of service delivery.
  • Maintain area level management and oversight of cargo operations performance, including outsourced functions, to ensure the implementation and performance of all applicable targets and objectives are achieved. Including all safety, security and compliance-related standards. This shall include but is not limited to documented requirements specified in Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and associated Objectives, Goals, Strategies and Measures (OGSM) targets – acting as a point of escalation and direction where required.
  • Directing the allocation of resources and personnel at an area level to ensure day-to-day operations are conducted in accordance with regulatory requirements, company policies and procedures, and all applicable safety and security standards and requirements.
  • Coordinate with officials and government bodies to ensure smooth processing of cargo in line with current regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct investigations into any cargo related safety occurrence within designated area, ensuring effective root cause analysis with tangible corrective actions are implemented to mitigate any further re-occurrence.
  • Make day-to-day operational decisions to manage and mitigate operational safety and security-related risks at an area level, through effective evaluation and decision-making based on conditions, hazards and threats.
  • Perform the role of Local Security Contact Officer for freighter-only network stations, ensuring effective oversight and functional management of operational security, implementation and compliance with Etihad and regulatory security requirements.
  • Establish and maintain close working relationships with internal stakeholders, airport management and third-party service providers to achieve On-Time Departure Performance especially for freighter flights and RFS operations.
  • Implement measurement tools to gauge overall performance of flights and resources and implement KPI’s to highlight business needs and requirements.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure that all cargo operations across the area are performed in a safe and secure manner in compliance with regulatory requirements for safety (under SMS guidelines), security, and company procedures.
  • Ensure the existence of the necessary facilities, workspace, equipment and supporting services, as well as work environment, to satisfy cargo operational requirements.
  • Manage the provision of the right tools, training and auditable oversight for the business, to warrant best in class compliance and performance.
  • Escalate medium or higher-level risks to appropriate senior management or executive level personnel.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma - Degree level education desirable
  • A high standard of verbal and written English
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Involvement in managing multi-station cargo operations, cargo handling systems and messaging requirements.
  • Understanding of budgetary controls related to cargo handling at network stations.
  • Industry training in Dangerous Goods, Cargo Operations, Security, Quality and Auditor trainings is an advantage.
  • 5 years aviation experience, including 2 years in a supervisory role or equivalent capacity.
