This role is based at Amandelbult Complex, Thabazimbi, South Africa

Job Description

The role provides geological leadership and expertise to support mine planning, resource estimation, and exploration activities and further ensures accurate geological modelling and interpretation to guide mining operations effectively.

  • Oversee investigation of incidents (safety, health, environmental and social) occurring within the operational Geology function.
  • Manage the execution and review of geological data acquisition, storage and validation:
    • Data - mapping, logging, sampling, assaying, hydrogeological, geometallurgical.
    • database management – boreholes and ore control (RC/UG Channel Sampling)
    • Quality Assurance & Quality Control (QAQC)) - ensuring geological excellence at Operational level.
  • Manage the execution of site exploration drilling strategy and budget (near asset drilling, advanced infill drilling, and ore control drilling) for both underground and surface ensuring replacement of depleted Reserves and timely conversion of Resource to appropriate categories to inform Reserve conversion and input into Mine Planning activities.
  • Ensure correct evaluation and reporting from Resource Models including grade and geometallurgical variables to support mine planning and mine value chain reconciliation reporting.
  • Manage the execution and review of operational geological Structure Modelling (including Geological Loss Estimates).
  • Implement and execute standards and procedures for geological data collection, interpretation, and validation in preparation for structure models, resource estimation, and mine planning.
  • Accountable for Ore Grade Control Reconciliation with Mine Value Chain Reconciliation (MVCR) principles. Ensure accurate MVCR reporting enabling optimum mining decisions.
  • Ensure effective and accurate geological inputs to mine planning, scheduling, and budgeting processes to support operational execution to achieve business targets.
  • Implement and manage effective Governance and Risk processes.
  • Manage interpretation and decision making of value over volume mining using optimal grade and geometallurgical inputs with the latest cost and revenue information.
  • Manage all hydrogeological activities to ensure effective control and efficient use of water within the mine environment.
  • Ensure that the Geology team is fully aware and supportive of all water and energy efficiency initiatives throughout the value chain.
  • Manage the monitoring of the spatial and temporal compliance of mining excavations to the mine plan.
  • Ensure emplacement and compliance of Contractor Management. Manage Insource/Outsource decision-making process and ensure that decisions are evaluated.
  • Accountable for optimal Plant feed utilizing grade and geometallurgical data guided by Value over Volume principles.
  • Collaborate and influence key internal stakeholders (corporate, mining operations) to support the identification and execution of operational geoscience.
  • Ensure appropriate training for junior geologists and mining operators ensuring sustainable upskilling of the department. Develop relevant KPIs to ensure mining execution is optimal.

This role is at a Band 5 level reporting to the Mineral resourcing Manager

Qualifications

  • Honours degree in Geology
  • A postgraduate qualification (Masters or equivalent) in Geosciences and/or MBA will be desirable.
  • 8 – 15 years working experience
  • Expert knowledge in geology with a track record of developing and implementing strategies successfully.
