The Senior Management Accountant is responsible for leading the finance function relating to key financial deliverables and ensuring the accurate and timely preparation of management information. This role includes ownership of month-end reporting, maintaining strong financial controls, reconciling accounts, providing commercial analysis and supporting statutory reporting and audit requirements.
The Senior Management Accountant works closely with the Finance Director, internal departments and external advisers to ensure smooth and efficient financial operations, provide technical accounting and business knowledge support, and maintain adherence to company policies and procedures. The role also provides guidance and support to junior members of the finance team.

Responsibilities
Month-end close & reporting
- Leads and coordinates the monthly management accounts process for assigned group entities
- Reviews and posts journals for prepayments, accruals, deferred revenue, accrued income, payroll, expenses and overheads
- Reviews fixed asset additions, disposals and depreciation
- Reviews stock, cost of sales and gross profit reporting
- Reviews intercompany transactions and ensures balances are agreed and reconciled
- Prepares and reviews the monthly profit and loss account, balance sheet and supporting schedules
- Produces clear commentary on performance, variances, risks and opportunities
- Ensures month-end reporting is accurate, complete and delivered within agreed deadlines
- Organises and supports monthly sales review and P&L review meetings Balance sheet and financial control
- Owns the monthly balance sheet reconciliation and review process
- Ensures bank, credit card, purchase ledger, sales ledger and intercompany accounts are controlled and reconciled
- Reviews accrued income, deferred revenue, bad debt provisions and other key accounting estimates
- Ensures accounting records are clean, controlled and supported by appropriate evidence
- Identifies control weaknesses and implements proportionate improvements
Budgeting, forecasting & commercial support
- Supports the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts and reforecasts
- Analyses revenue, gross margin, profitability, overheads and operational performance
- Provides financial support and constructive challenge to department heads and operational managers
- Develops financial models and analysis to support business cases and decision-making
- Identifies financial trends, risks and opportunities and communicates these clearly to senior management
Audit, compliance & statutory reporting
- Coordinates audit preparation and provide schedules and supporting documentation
- Acts as a key contact for external auditors and advisers
- Supports the preparation of statutory accounts, corporation tax, VAT and other statutory submissions
- Supports year-end consolidation and group reporting requirements
- Ensures compliance with accounting standards, internal policies and regulatory requirements
Systems, processes & team support
- Identifies and implements opportunities to improve finance processes, controls and reporting efficiency
- Supports finance system implementations, integrations and automation projects
- Develops and maintains clear finance process documentation
- Provides technical guidance, review and support to Assistant Management Accountants and Finance Assistants
- Supports the training, onboarding and development of finance team members
- Along with other ad hoc work to support financial reporting and the business
Requirements
- Experience: 5-8 years’ experience in management accounting, financial reporting or a similar position. Experience of managing month-end reporting, group reporting and statutory audit processes. Experience of coaching or supporting junior finance staff. Good knowledge of Xero is beneficial but not essential, and ConnectWise is beneficial but not essential.
- Qualifications: Fully qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA (or international equivalent with UK accounting and tax experience), or qualified by experience with significant relevant management accounting experience.
