Civil Quantity Surveyor (Civil QS) – Job Description
A Civil Quantity Surveyor (QS) is responsible for managing the cost, quantity, and commercial aspects of civil construction projects , including estimation, tendering, measurement, billing, variations, and cost control.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and BOQs (Bill of Quantities) for civil works.
- Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents to identify project requirements.
- Prepare cost estimates, rate analysis, and tender documents .
- Measure completed works and prepare interim payment applications .
- Prepare and verify subcontractor and supplier invoices .
- Monitor project costs, budgets, and expenditures.
- Prepare and evaluate variations, additional works, and claims .
- Coordinate with site engineers, project managers, consultants, contractors, and clients.
- Check quantities and ensure work is measured according to approved drawings and specifications.
- Assist in tender preparation, comparison of quotations, and subcontractor selection .
- Maintain proper records of quantities, costs, invoices, variations, and project documentation.
- Prepare monthly valuations, progress reports, and final accounts .
- Review contractual requirements and ensure compliance with agreed rates and conditions.
- Conduct site measurements and verify actual completed works.
- Assist in cost forecasting and cost-control activities throughout the project.
- Support the preparation and settlement of final accounts .
Required Skills:
- Strong knowledge of civil construction works and quantity surveying .
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Excel, and quantity take-off software .
- Good understanding of BOQ, rate analysis, measurements, valuations, and variations .
- Knowledge of construction contracts and commercial procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret civil drawings and specifications .
- Strong numerical, analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Experience with high-rise buildings, infrastructure, roads, or commercial projects is an advantage.
