Job Description

Job Summary:
The R&D Membrane Pilot Operator will operate and maintain a pilot for a new membrane technology in Port Arthur, Texas, after starting in Oakville, Canada, for training and operations there. The R&D Membrane Pilot Operator will have primary responsibility for ensuring execution of the test plan in close collaboration with key stakeholders. Much of this collaboration will involve coordinating with team members working at other Veolia facilities in technology areas related to the membrane pilot. The position will initially focus heavily on hands-on work with the pilot, including troubleshooting and maintenance. Longer term, the position may also include data analysis and report development components. The project will also involve touring stakeholders and company leadership through the pilot periodically.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct tests for membrane products and systems, including monitoring, documentation, inspections, and communication with test leaders.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues with support from test leaders.
  • Perform analytical equipment calibration and accurately document results to ensure accurate data.
  • Calibrate instruments and assist with maintaining and modifying system components such as piping spools, instrumentation, valves, pumps, and blowers.
  • Collaborate closely with suppliers to source and procure system components and consumables, ensuring accurate and timely billing and invoicing.
  • Provide on-call and weekend support for the pilot, as needed.
  • Collaborate with the team on health and safety, maintenance, and improvement activities to ensure safe and efficient pilot operations.
  • Travel periodically to other Veolia sites for collaboration and/or training
  • Tour company leadership and stakeholders around the pilot, sharing key successes and building further support for the project
  • Coordinate FSR support for the pilot as needed
  • Coordinate with the site on EH&S and operation of the pilot
  • Analyze data from pilot operations and coordinate with the larger team to integrate said data into reports related to scale-up

Education & Experience:

Required

  • Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering/Technology, or a related technical discipline
  • Valid Driver’s License usable in the US
  • Travel primarily domestically and possibly internationally
  • Visa or ability to obtain a Visa for internal candidates only

Preferred

  • Knowledge or experience related to membrane products and processes
  • Familiarity with fluid systems, including piping, pumps, valves, and P&ID drawings
  • Experience with methods for analytical equipment calibration
  • Ability to create simple CAD drawings for Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and facility layouts
  • Understanding of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and electrical safety
  • Proficiency in the SAP purchasing system

Working Conditions:
The work environment spans various settings, including offices, laboratories, and industrial facilities. The individual may be exposed to municipal and industrial chemicals. The role occasionally requires lifting equipment or modules weighing up to 50 pounds. Travel will be domestic, with the possibility of international travel.

Compensation:
The compensation range is tied to the market for similarly benchmarked roles. The range is not an absolute, but a guide, and offers will be based on the individual candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience, and market conditions, as well as internal peer equity. Depending upon all the preceding considerations for the final selected individual candidate, the offer may be lower or higher than the stated range: $30.00 - $35.00 hourly CAD.
