Reconciliation Analyst

Employment Type: 1-Year Contract

Pay Rate: $25.00 per hour

Expected Start Date: September 28, 2026

Schedule: Eight-hour shift scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. MST

Work Arrangement: Fully on-site

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Reconciliation Analyst to join a large financial institution on a one-year contract. In this role, you will be responsible for reconciling bank statements, cash records, and general ledger accounts, investigating discrepancies, and ensuring financial information is complete and accurate.

The ideal candidate will have previous banking reconciliation experience, strong Microsoft Excel skills, and the ability to investigate and resolve issues efficiently. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to expand their experience within banking and financial operations.

Key Responsibilities

Reconciliation and Data Matching

  • Reconcile daily bank statements, cash logs, and general ledger accounts.
  • Compare financial records across multiple sources to confirm that balances and transactions match.
  • Identify unmatched transactions, balance differences, and other reconciliation breaks.
  • Ensure reconciliation activities are completed accurately and within established deadlines.
  • Maintain organized and complete supporting documentation for all reconciliations.

Discrepancy Investigation and Resolution

  • Investigate reconciliation breaks, including:
    • Missing or incorrect deposits
    • Bank fees
    • Delayed or incomplete transfers
    • Duplicate transactions
    • Incorrect postings
    • Timing differences
  • Determine the source of discrepancies and recommend appropriate corrective action.
  • Correct errors directly when authorized or collaborate with internal teams to resolve outstanding items.
  • Clear suspense and control account items in a timely manner.
  • Escalate unresolved, high-risk, or aged items to the appropriate stakeholder.
  • Follow up on outstanding issues until they are fully resolved.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare daily, monthly, and month-end reconciliation reports.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed reconciliations, adjustments, and issue resolutions.
  • Ensure reconciliation documentation is complete and readily available for internal or external audits.
  • Track outstanding breaks and provide status updates to management and relevant stakeholders.
  • Support month-end and year-end financial close activities as required.

Process Improvement

  • Review current reconciliation procedures and identify opportunities to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Update process documentation, standard operating procedures, and job aids.
  • Use Excel and available automation tools to streamline transaction matching and reporting.
  • Assist with testing and implementing improvements to reconciliation processes.
  • Share best practices and recurring issue trends with the team.
  • Recommend controls that may help prevent future errors and discrepancies.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work with accounting, finance, banking operations, and other internal departments to resolve reconciliation issues.
  • Communicate discrepancies and required actions clearly and professionally.
  • Respond to requests for reconciliation records and supporting documentation.
  • Build positive working relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Handle confidential financial information with professionalism and discretion.

Required Qualifications

  • One to two years of banking reconciliation experience.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including:
    • PivotTables
    • VLOOKUP
    • Data filtering and sorting
    • Spreadsheet reconciliation
    • Basic formulas and data validation
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate discrepancies and resolve outstanding items.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple reconciliations and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable working fully on-site.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, business administration, or a related field.
  • Two to four years of experience in banking, finance, accounting, or financial operations.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.
  • Experience working with general ledger, accounting, or enterprise resource planning systems.
  • Knowledge of suspense accounts, control accounts, and month-end financial close processes.
  • Familiarity with SQL or other data-querying tools is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience supporting internal or external audits.
  • Experience improving or automating reconciliation processes.
