Infectious diseases, including antimicrobial resistance, are among the most serious threats to animals, human and plant health. A multitude of different pathogens can cause diseases, therefore understanding their ecology, evolution, genomics and phenotypic expression is essential to provide future solutions.
The research group for genomic epidemiology has as a focus on developing tools and solutions for analyzing pathogen genomic data, which are mainly computationally based. This is also combined with different wet-lab investigations and verification of the data for the bioinformatic pipelines and verifying in silico findings through dedicated laboratory experiments. In addition, we conduct teaching involving development of skills in conducting laboratory investigations. Most of our focus is on bacterial pathogens and metagenomic samples (e.g. faeces). However, we are also involved in working with viruses and parasites.
To support our various and ad hoc laboratory and analytical activities we are seeking a Laboratory Coordinator capable of both conducting a broad range of wet-lab investigations, managing routine obligations, help analysing the data using software and drafting the results in plots and figures, conduct training of students and ensuring the laboratory component of research studies.
The job
- Your main responsibility will be to conduct ad hoc laboratory experiment where you will be testing bacterial strains under different environmental conditions: this includes bacterial culturing, MIC, AST and several microbiological techniques.
- You will conduct long read WGS and metagenomic sequencing as part of various projects and surveillance efforts.
- You must be very familiar with DNA extractions and molecular work.
- You will take responsibility for laboratory equipment (maintenance) and strain collections including our large bacterial isolate collection in our long-term freezers.
- You will help analysing the sequencing data, this includes mapping the DNA sequences t o databases using aligners like KMA.
- You will help presenting the data in a printable version, this include showing the results in plots and graphs.
- You will train and supervise students and guests in laboratory work.
- Daily work will be in close collaboration with other researchers in the Genomic Epidemiology group and national and international partners.
Desired skills:
- Experience in general microbiology and specifically bacterial cultures, maintenance, culturing, cleaning etc.
- Experience in molecular biology including DNA work, PCRs and cloning.
- Experience in sequencing data handling and analyses (mapping and alignment).
- The ability to learn how to run scripts for data analyses and making figures.
- Very good communication skills as the position requires communicating with several collaborators.
You must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree in microbiology, biotechnology or similar. Ideally this should have been supplemented with considerable laboratory experience for example obtained through PhD and Post doc work experiences.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The position is a full-time position. Starting date is 1 November 2026 (or according to mutual agreement).
