About the role
The Tax Manager is responsible for managing all Indonesian tax matters for the Barry Callebaut group entities in Indonesia. The role provides strategic and operational tax support across corporate income tax, VAT, withholding taxes, transfer pricing, tax audits, tax disputes, mutual agreement procedures (MAP), tax reporting and business projects. The position serves as the primary point of contact for local management, finance teams, external advisors and Indonesian tax authorities.
Key responsibilities include
Tax Audit, Controversy and Dispute Management
- Lead and coordinate responses to tax audits conducted by the Indonesian tax authorities.
- Manage tax objections, appeals and litigation processes in collaboration with external advisors.
- Prepare supporting documentation and technical analyses to defend tax positions.
- Act as the key coordinator for tax authority information requests and audit negotiations.
- Given the volume and frequency of VAT audits, the role requires significant hands-on management of indirect tax controversy matters. VAT audit management represents a material portion of the position's responsibilities and demands strong project management, stakeholder engagement, and technical tax expertise.
Mutual Agreement Procedures (MAP) and International Tax Projects
- Support and coordinate MAP submissions and other tax dispute resolution initiatives involving cross-border transactions.
- Work with external advisors and regional tax team to prepare supporting analyses and documentation for competent authority discussions.
- Monitor developments in international tax regulations and assess business impacts.
Tax Compliance and Tax Reporting
- Manage all direct and indirect tax compliance obligations for Indonesian entities.
- Oversee preparation, review and filing of corporate income tax returns, VAT returns, withholding tax filings and other statutory tax submissions.
- Ensure tax provisions, deferred tax calculations and tax-related balance sheet accounts are properly reported and supported.
- Coordinate monthly and year-end tax closing activities and provide regular tax updates to regional tax team.
Transfer Pricing
- Manage annual transfer pricing compliance requirements, including local file preparation and supporting analyses.
- Coordinate preparation and maintenance of transfer pricing documentation for Indonesian entities.
- Support implementation of global and regional transfer pricing policies.
- Partner with global and regional tax teams and external advisors on transfer pricing audits and controversy matters.
Business Partnering and Advisory
- Provide practical tax advice to finance, supply chain, procurement, treasury, commercial and manufacturing teams.
- Assess tax implications of new business initiatives, restructurings, contracts and intercompany transactions.
- Support tax planning initiatives while ensuring compliance with internal governance standards.
- Participate in business projects and provide proactive tax risk assessments.
Tax Governance and Risk Management
- Monitor tax risks and ensure remediation plans are implemented.
- Maintain robust documentation supporting tax positions taken by the company.
- Ensure readiness for internal and external audits.
- Support implementation of tax controls, policies and governance frameworks.
Stakeholder Management
- Build strong relationships with Indonesian tax authorities, finance leadership and external advisors.
- Act as the key tax contact for Indonesian entities.
- Collaborate closely with regional and global tax teams to align local practices with group policies.
About you
Education
o Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Tax, Finance or a related discipline.
o Professional tax qualification is highly preferred.
Experience
o 8-12 years of progressive tax experience gained in a multinational corporation, Big Four firm or a combination of both.
o Strong experience in Indonesian corporate income tax, VAT and withholding taxes.
o Experience managing tax audits, audits defense, objections and tax disputes.
o Solid transfer pricing knowledge and experience with local file documentation.
o Experience working with Indonesian tax authorities and external advisors.
o Exposure to manufacturing, supply chain and cross-border business models is an advantage.
