Responsible for supervising hydrology program and evaluating surface water, groundwater, and mine water systems associated with underground block cave mining operations. The role focuses on identifying hydrological risks, maintaining safe mining conditions, supporting operational continuity, optimizing water management infrastructure, providing technical recommendations and ensuring regulatory compliance through monitoring, analysis, forecasting, and mitigation planning.
The key duties and responsibilities of this position are:
Safety & Compliance
- Lead and reinforce safety practices in hydrology field activities, including hazard identification and risk assessment.
- Ensure all hydrology activities are conducted in compliance with company safety, government, and environmental standards.
Hydrology Monitoring and Field Operation
- Supervise and coordinate hydrology field activities including monitoring, inspection, mapping, sampling, testing, and data collection to ensure work is executed according to plan and meets required standards.
- Supervise and perform wet muck mapping, water inflow measurement, and field observations to support safe mining operations.
- Supervise execution of dewatering drilling and hydrology monitoring programs to ensure targets are achieved safely, efficiently, and in accordance with design.
- Ensure hydrology monitoring equipment is properly installed, calibrated, and maintained to support reliable data collection.
- Coordinate field activities with Operations, Engineering, GeoEngineering, and Contractors to ensure alignment and minimize operational delays.
- Establish trigger action response plans (TARP) for hydrological hazards.
Data Management & Technical Analysis
- Interpret piezometer, flowmeter, pumping, and water quality data.
- Ensure QA/QC of hydrology data is performed and that datasets are accurate, complete, and reliable for analysis and reporting.
- Identify trends, anomalies, and potential groundwater risks, and escalate significant issues with recommended actions.
- Ensure proper implementation and continuous improvement of data management systems and workflows.
Reporting & Communication
- Review and consolidate hydrology reports to ensure quality, accuracy, and timely submission.
- Provide technical recommendations and ensure effective communication of hydrology conditions to stakeholders.
- Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure hydrology inputs are integrated into operational and planning decisions.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement improvements in hydrology processes, monitoring systems, and reporting practices.
- Supervise technicians (Pratama) in daily hydrology activities to ensure work quality and compliance with standards.
- Support development technicians through coaching, on-the-job training, and knowledge sharing.
- Ensure effective task allocation, coordination, and execution of hydrology activities to meet operational targets.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree (S1) in Geology, Mining, Hydrology, or related geoscience discipline.
- 1 – 3 years of experience in hydrology or hydrogeology, preferably in Underground mining operations.
Core Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Characters)
- Strong understanding of hydrology and hydrogeology principles and applications.
- Understanding groundwater monitoring methods and instrumentation (e.g., piezometers, flow measurement).
- Data analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with data management systems and tools (e.g., Excel, Databases; PowerBI/Tableau is an advantage).
- Computer literacy such as VULCAN, MINESIGHT, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
- Intermediate understanding of mining operations and associated risks. Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to supervise teams and manage field execution.
- Self-motivated and proactive in learning and development.
- Intermediate proficiency in English both verbal and written.
