JOB SUMMARY
The Cashier will be responsible for the movement of goods purchased by customers pass the checkout point and the securing of the Companies cash until it is collected at the appropriate time.
Cashiers in General Pool
·
Greet customers entering the department.
·
Receive payment by cash, check, credit/debit cards, vouchers.
·
Scan products and operate scanning equipment
·
Ensure tills are securely locked if there is no cashier at the station.
·
Issue receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers.
·
Process merchandise returns and exchanges.
·
Ensure that all credits are authorized and signed by a manager.
·
Prepare quotations for customers and ensure that all are signed by a manager
·
Answer customers’ questions and provide information on procedures or policies.
·
Resolve customer complaints.
·
Count money in cash drawers at the beginning of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct and that there is adequate change.
·
Carefully examine cash received to ensure that it is not counterfeit.
·
Examine checks to ensure that correct dates and amounts are written and that all checks are signed.
·
Examine items that are being cashed to ensure that they are coded and priced correctly.
·
Report discrepancies in prices and codes immediately to the Assistant Manager.
·
Maintain clean and orderly checkout areas.
·
Monitor levels of cash in tills to ensure that there are no excessive amounts.
·
Report all excessive amounts to the Accounts Department for immediate lodgment at the bank.
·
Post charges against customer’s accounts.
·
Stock shelves, and mark prices on shelves and items when needed.
·
Prepare quotations per customers’ requests.
·
Count the cash in drawer at the end of the day, ensuring cash equals receipts.
·
Inform customers about services available and assess their needs.
·
Assist with inventory counts.
Cashiers at contractor’s sales
Duties include all of the above, along with the following:
·
Process sale of merchandise to contractors.
·
Prepare duty free quotations
·
Prepare duty-free transactions, both cash and charge.
·
Accepting and processing payment on accounts.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
·
Extended periods of standing may be required when dealing with customers.
·
Physically able to engage in repetitive hand movements, reaching shelves of varying heights, stoop, bend and kneel frequently.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:

Successful passes in at least 6 CXC subjects including English and Mathematics.
·
Previous experience using a point-of-sale system.
·
Previous experience as a Cashier.
