Health & Safety Manager (Multi-Site Retail)
Reporting to: General Manager \ Chief People Officer
Work location: Burmarrad, Malta

Hudson Group is an international retailer and distributor primarily involved in the sport and fashion wear sectors. The Group’s head office is in Malta but is also present through offices in Italy, Cyprus, Morocco, Nigeria, Kenya and Algeria.
Though Hudson Holdings was founded in 2006, the Group’s roots reach as far back as 1987 when the first pair of NIKE was sold in Malta.
Role purpose
The Health & Safety Manager will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health and safety systems across all retail locations in Malta, including stores, warehouses, and administrative facilities.
This role ensures full compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act (Chapter 646 of the Laws of Malta) and all related subsidiary legislation, while fostering a strong safety culture aligned with EU directives and retail operational standards.
The key duties and responsibilities of the role are as follows:
Legal Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with Maltese Occupational Health and Safety legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act (Chapter 646).
- Maintain adherence to the Work Place (Minimum Health and Safety Requirements) Regulations (S.L. 646.08) and other applicable subsidiary legislation.
- Liaise with the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) during inspections, audits, and compliance reviews.
- Oversee legally required risk assessments and ensure timely implementation of corrective measures.
- Develop, implement, and maintain an up-to-date Health & Safety Policy and supporting procedures.
- Monitor legislative updates and ensure company policies reflect regulatory changes.
Multi-Site & Multi-Country Safety Management
- Conduct regular site audits across all retail outlets, warehouses, and administrative facilities in Malta and when required, other Hudson territories.
- Implement standardised health and safety protocols tailored to retail and logistics environments.
- Monitor incident reports and lead investigations into accidents, near-misses, and emerging risk trends.
- Support store and operational management in hazard identification and preventive action planning.
- Track audit findings and ensure timely closure of corrective actions.
Training, Competence & Culture
- Develop and deliver Health & Safety training programmes for all employees.
- Verify that designated competent persons meet OHSA criteria.
- Promote safety awareness and embed a proactive safety culture across all sites.
Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain detailed and accurate safety documentation and compliance records.
- Establish standardised reporting templates and KPIs.
- Report compliance performance, risks, incidents, and improvement plans to senior leadership.
- Support or act as the Health & Safety Reporting Officer (HSRO) where required.
- Monitor key safety metrics.
Emergency Preparedness & Continuous Improvement
- Lead safety culture and engagement initiatives across all sites.
- Develop and oversee emergency preparedness standards and drills.
- Benchmark safety practices against EU directives and retail best practice.
- Identify operational improvements to reduce risk and enhance workplace safety performance.

What You Will Bring to the Role:
- Level 5 qualification or higher in Occupational Health & Safety.
- Recognised training in Maltese OHS legislative frameworks.
- Registered or meet OHSA’s definition of a “Competent Person.”
- Strong working knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act (Chapter 646).
- Experience developing and delivering engaging health & safety training programs.
- Demonstrated experience in reporting, governance frameworks, and structured health & safety documentation management and implementation.
- Ability to influence managers and operational teams to embed a strong safety culture.
- Experience liaising with regulatory authorities.
- Experienced in documentation management, control systems, and structured implementation of health and safety policies and procedures.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken).
- Willingness to travel regularly across Hudson territories.
