Maintenance Technician (LMP)

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on the Liquid Mud Plant (LMP) in Pemba, keeping equipment such as mixing tanks, pumps, agitators, and bulk storage systems in safe and reliable working order.

The role supports continuous plant availability for drilling fluid preparation and dispatch, maintaining accurate maintenance records in line with the agreed maintenance program.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform plant maintenance per the agreed maintenance program.

• Record the maintenance performed, including parts used and work completed.

• Carry out routine inspection of mixing tanks, agitators, pumps, valves, hoses, and bulk storage tanks.

• Identify and report equipment faults or abnormalities to the Fluids Plant Supervisor.

• Carry out corrective repairs on plant and mechanical equipment as required.

• Support the ordering, control, and stock management of spare parts and consumables.

• Ensure tools and equipment are used, stored, and maintained safely.

• Follow lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) and permit to work (PTW) procedures during maintenance activities.

• Assist operators with minor equipment adjustments to keep the plant running efficiently.

• Maintain a clean and organized maintenance work area.

• Participate in job risk analysis and continuous improvement programs.

HSE & Risk

• Mechanical hazards – moving parts, pumps, and agitators during repair or maintenance work.

• Electrical hazards – exposure to plant electrical systems and motors during fault-finding or repairs.

• Chemical exposure – contact with residual drilling fluids and additives during equipment servicing.

• Manual handling – lifting tools, spare parts, and equipment components.

• Working with pressurized systems – risk of hose whip or pump failure during maintenance.

• Fire/explosion risk – linked to maintenance work near bulk mud systems and ignition sources.

• Remote/coastal site risks – delayed emergency response and demanding working conditions.

Qualifications & Experience

• Technical qualification in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance.

• Experience maintaining industrial, plant, or oilfield equipment (pumps, motors, tanks) preferred.

• Strong HSE mindset aligned with client and IOC standards.

• Ability to work under pressure in remote/coastal operating environments.

• Basic understanding of drilling fluid/plant systems an advantage.

• English required; Portuguese is an advantage.

• Certifications preferred: H2S Awareness, BOSIET/FOET, site-specific HSE induction.
