Job Description

About the role

Based in Auckland and part of WMNZ's Fleet EV Team, this role supports the maintenance, diagnostics, repair, and ongoing development of our growing electric vehicle fleet and associated technologies. Working alongside a team of EV technicians, you'll also be trusted to work independently across a range of activities, helping ensure the safety, reliability, and performance of one of New Zealand's largest heavy EV fleets. This is a hands on role with opportunities to be involved in fault finding, commissioning, testing, and the introduction of new vehicle technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostics, fault-finding, and repairs on high- and low-voltage vehicle systems, including CAN bus and control networks.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and system updates on the operational EV fleet.
  • Support field repairs and assist other workshops with remote diagnostics and also travel when required.
  • Liaise with the Auckland EV Engineering team to implement electrical upgrades and improvements.
  • Ensure all work complies with electrical safety standards, company procedures, and high-voltage safety requirements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and communicate effectively with the operations and engineering teams

Qualifications

  • Qualification: Level 4 Certificate in Automotive Electrical Engineering or Heavy Automotive Electrical.
  • Experience: Strong background in heavy vehicle or plant electrical systems. EV or high voltage experience is advantageous.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in diagnostics, CAN bus systems, wiring, and electrical fault analysis. Can interpret wiring schematics and carry out tests based off drawings.
  • Safety Focused: Committed to safe working practices and able to meet HV safety and compliance standards.
  • Autonomous and Reliable: Capable of managing workload independently with support from engineers based in Auckland.
  • Travel Ready: Ability to travel to other regions as required for technical support or training.
