Airfield Manager and Safety Officer

Waimakariri District Council is seeking an Airfield Manager and Safety Officer to lead the safe, compliant and effective operation of Rangiora Airfield, a valued community asset supporting recreational, training and general aviation activities.

About the Role

Full time | Fixed Term 2 years

In this role, you will provide aviation expertise, operational management, safety and risk oversight, maintenance coordination and asset management advice for Rangiora Airfield. You’ll work closely with airfield users, leaseholders, contractors, regulators and Council teams to support the ongoing operation and future development of this important community asset.

Key areas of responsibility include:

· Airfield operations, safety and regulatory compliance

· Maintenance planning and asset management

· Contractor and project coordination

· Stakeholder and leaseholder relationships

· Supporting user groups and advisory forums

· Providing operational and strategic advice on airfield matters

About you

You will be a practical and adaptable professional with excellent communication and relationship management skills. You will be comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders, balancing operational requirements with customer service, while maintaining a strong focus on safety and compliance.

Ideally, you will bring:

· Experience in aviation, asset management, infrastructure operations or a similar environment.

· Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills

· Experience coordinating contractors, maintenance programmes or projects

· Sound judgement, attention to detail and a solutions-focused approach

· The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities

Knowledge and experience of aerodrome operations and Civil Aviation Authority requirements would be a distinct advantage but is not essential.
