STMS Multiskilled

We’re looking for an experienced STMS Multiskilled person to join our Water Services Network Operations team. This varied, hands-on role combines traffic management with three waters maintenance, construction and inspection work across Napier’s water network.

You’ll support the safe delivery of work in and around our roads, respond to faults and service requests, and help identify maintenance needs across our water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure. You’ll also have the opportunity to assist with hydro excavation services, providing additional support when required.

Te Āheinga - The Opportunity

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and monitor Traffic Management Plans in line with relevant requirements
  • Complete STMS inspections and audits to ensure traffic management is safe and effective
  • Provide practical traffic management advice and support to the wider team
  • Undertake three waters inspections, repairs, renewals and installation work
  • Respond to leaks, blockages, overflows and other network service requests
  • Identify and report asset defects, risks and maintenance requirements
  • Help maintain traffic management equipment and vehicles so they remain fit for purpose
  • Assist with operating our hydro excavation unit and provide relief cover when required

This is an active role where no two days will be quite the same. You’ll work both independently and alongside a supportive operational team, helping deliver safe, practical outcomes for our community.

He kōrero mōhou - About You

You’ll bring practical experience, sound judgement and a strong commitment to working safely. You’ll also have:

  • A Level 1 STMS qualification
  • A full, clean Class 1 driver licence
  • An understanding of three waters reticulation systems
  • Confidence using small plant, hand tools and power tools
  • A good understanding of workplace health and safety practices
  • The physical fitness and capability needed for manual and confined-space work
  • A cooperative approach and the ability to work effectively without direct supervision
  • A customer-focused attitude when working with colleagues, contractors and the public

A TTM Planner Category A and B qualification, Class 2 or 4 driver licence AND hydro excavation operation experience would be an advantage.

You’ll also need to be available for rostered standby and occasional overtime when required.

This is a permanent, full-time role working 42.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday. You’ll be based out of Napier City Council’s operational depot in Onekawa but spend much of your time working on the network across the city.

The hourly rate for this role is between $34.71 - $36.93 (plus KiwiSaver if eligible), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
