Position: Expert Legal Counsel
Grade: L2
Location: Islamabad
Last Date to Apply: 18 September 2026

What is Expert Legal Counsel?

Provide practical, timely legal support to JazzCash’s business teams, helping them deliver products, partnerships and day-to-day operations while managing legal risk. The role covers commercial contracts, legal advisory, disputes and support on regulatory and corporate matters. The role holder will also look after the non-banking finance company’s (NBFC) compliance and regulatory matters, under the guidance of the Head of Legal and in coordination with relevant internal teams.

We are looking for a lawyer with strong academic credentials, sound judgement and the confidence to take ownership. The right person will look beyond identifying legal problems: they will understand what the business is trying to achieve, ask the right questions and help find a workable way forward.

The postion reports to Head of Legal.

What Expert Legal Counsel does?

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Contracts & Business Support

  • Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements, including technology, vendor, service, distribution and partnership arrangements.
  • Identify material legal and commercial risks and recommend clear, proportionate protections rather than treating every issue as equally important.
  • Work directly with business teams to understand proposed arrangements and support transactions from initial discussion through signing.
  • Develop and maintain practical contract templates, checklists and guidance for recurring business needs.

Legal Advisory & Product Support

  • Advise on day-to-day legal questions in clear, straightforward language, with actionable recommendations.
  • Support legal reviews of products, customer journeys, terms and conditions, marketing materials and partnerships across payments, digital lending, BNPL, insurance-related offerings and other fintech services, as applicable.
  • Research applicable laws and regulatory requirements, assess their business impact and flag issues requiring specialist advice or senior review.
  • Work with Compliance, Risk, Product and other relevant teams to build legal requirements into business plans early.

Litigation & Dispute Management

  • Assess disputes, legal notices and customer or commercial claims, and recommend practical response strategies.
  • Draft or review notices, replies, pleadings and case briefs, working with external counsel where required.
  • Coordinate case records, evidence, instructions and internal stakeholders; track hearings, deadlines and follow-up actions.
  • Support court and forum proceedings as required, within applicable professional authorisation and internal arrangements.
  • Identify opportunities for early resolution and highlight recurring issues that the business can address to prevent further disputes.

Regulatory & Corporate Support

  • Support the Senior Legal Counsel on regulatory correspondence, submissions, approvals and engagement matters, working with the relevant regulatory affairs and compliance teams.
  • Assist with corporate authorisations, governance documentation and company secretarial matters as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate legal records and provide concise updates on active matters, risks and decisions needed.

NBFC Compliance & Regulatory Matters

  • Manage day-to-day NBFC compliance and regulatory issues, coordinating with relevant teams to meet applicable SECP and other regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a compliance calendar and coordinate timely filings, returns, licence renewals and fulfilment of approval conditions.
  • Prepare regulatory submissions, licensing and approval applications, and responses to queries or inspection observations; support engagement with SECP and other relevant authorities.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and work with relevant teams to update policies, procedures and controls, including lending practices, customer protection and AML/CFT requirements, as applicable.
  • Identify compliance gaps, track corrective actions and regulatory commitments, maintain supporting records and escalate material issues promptly to the Head of Legal.

  • Enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court in Pakistan.
  • 3–4 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in legal practice and/or an in-house legal role.
  • Strong legal research, drafting and analytical skills, with the ability to communicate advice clearly.

  • Integrity and teamwork: Handles sensitive matters with discretion, works constructively across teams and is receptive to feedback.
