Introduction:

The division of Clinical labs and Outreach Health Services at The Aga Khan University Hospital is a dynamic service centre which serves the diagnostic needs of the country through its clinical laboratory services that spreads across Pakistan. AKUH’s Clinical Laboratory is College of American Pathologists (CAP) accredited and caters to the need of the entire country through its tertiary lab at the main campus and 300+ specimen collection units and 13 stat labs across Pakistan.

Job Summary:

The incumbent will be responsible for leading the overall business growth and operational performance of Clinical Laboratory and Outreach Health Services in the assigned region. The role will focus on developing and executing commercial strategies, expanding the customer and referral base, identifying new business opportunities, strengthening relationships with hospitals, healthcare providers, corporate clients, pharmaceutical and healthcare organizations, and other key stakeholders, and increasing utilization of laboratory and outreach services.

The role will also ensure effective regional operations, service quality, regulatory compliance, resource optimization, and excellent patient/client experience.

Responsibilities:

The incumbent will be responsible to:

  • Develop and execute comprehensive sales and marketing strategies for regional business and operational oversight of Clinical Laboratory and Outreach Services, aligned with market opportunities, healthcare needs, and organizational objectives.

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities to expand sales of Clinical Laboratory and Outreach Services, including corporate accounts, hospitals, clinics, healthcare providers, and institutional clients.

  • Develop and implement sales and business development strategies to increase laboratory test volumes, revenue, market penetration, and utilization of Outreach Services.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including physicians, hospitals, healthcare institutions, corporate clients, insurance organizations, pharmaceutical/healthcare companies, and other referral sources.

  • Conduct market analysis to identify emerging healthcare trends, competitor activities, customer needs, and opportunities for expansion of laboratory and diagnostic services.

  • Lead regional customer acquisition and retention initiatives and ensure effective follow-up with existing and prospective clients and referring physicians.

  • Collaborate with the marketing and communications teams to develop and execute targeted sales and marketing campaigns, promotional activities, health screening initiatives, CME activities, and other outreach programs to strengthen market visibility.

  • Develop and monitor regional sales/business development plans, KPIs, revenue targets, customer acquisition metrics, and service utilization.

  • Ensure effective integration of Clinical Laboratory, Outreach Phlebotomy Centers, Outreach Laboratories, and Medical Centers to deliver seamless and customer-focused services.

  • Lead and coach cross-functional teams, including sales/business development and operational teams, to achieve regional business and service objectives.

  • Monitor market performance and regional revenue, volumes, profitability, and expenditure against approved budgets, and take corrective actions where required.

  • Develop partnerships and strategic alliances that support the growth and visibility of Clinical Laboratory and Outreach Services.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen cost control, optimize turnaround time, monitor volumes and expenditures against budgets, improve throughput and occupancy rates, and enhance overall patient and provider experience.

  • Lead initiatives to improve efficiency, streamline service delivery, strengthen outreach visibility through stakeholder engagement and partnerships, and oversee outreach activities including specimen collection, health screening, wellness and CME events. Monitor inventory levels, usage, and control of supplies across Outreach Phlebotomy Centers, Labs and Medical Centers based monthly workload.

  • Manage maintenance and readiness of all facilities, ensuring equipment and infrastructure are in good working condition. Ensure preventive and corrective maintenance of equipment and infrastructure, coordinate with vendors for repair and servicing, and conduct regular facility inspections to address equipment and asset needs.

  • Improve patient satisfaction and experience for all the services in the assigned region.

  • Prepare and manage annual budgets, plan staffing and infrastructure as per market needs, and develop strategies aligned with organizational priorities and sustainability goals.

  • Ensure compliance with CAP, JCIA and regulatory requirements through regular audits, and represent the region as the focal person for regulatory and legal matters where authorized.

Requirements:

The successful candidate should have:

  • A Masters’ degree from a reputed university; preferably in Business Administration, Marketing, Healthcare Management, or an equivalent field.

  • Minimum 5–7 years of relevant experience in sales, business development, commercial operations, marketing, or healthcare service management, preferably within the pharmaceutical, diagnostics, clinical laboratory, medical devices, or healthcare industry.

  • Strong understanding of healthcare/diagnostics markets with demonstrated experience in business development, institutional sales, key account management, or market expansion.

  • Proven track record of achieving sales/revenue targets, developing new business, and building long-term relationships with key clients and stakeholders.

  • Experience managing and motivating sales/business development teams, preferably within a healthcare, pharmaceutical, diagnostics, or related industry.

  • Understanding of clinical laboratory/diagnostic services and the ability to translate customer and market needs into business opportunities.

  • Strong negotiation, influence, presentation, communication, and relationship-management skills.

  • Strong business acumen with the ability to identify market opportunities and develop commercially viable strategies

  • Ability to lead large, cross-functional teams, including sales/business development and operational teams.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in pharmaceutical, diagnostics, clinical laboratory, medical centres, healthcare services, or other related industries, particularly those with established networks among hospitals, physicians, corporate clients, and healthcare institutions.
