Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor at the School of Nursing and Midwifery.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Programme, School of Nursing and Midwifery, you will be required to:

  • independently teach assigned theoretical and clinical courses in the BScN program, including delivering lectures, conducting assessments, and evaluating students using diverse and effective pedagogical strategies.
  • develop and obtain necessary approvals for course proposals and design comprehensive course grids, including curriculum structure, assessment strategy, and class schedules
  • mentor junior faculty (Instructors, Interns) in course development, teaching, and research activities
  • implement innovative and culturally relevant teaching practices that foster student engagement, critical thinking, and self-directed learning
  • identify learning gaps and recommend or implement strategies for improvement
  • supervise students during clinical placements and maintain collaborative relationships with affiliated healthcare institutions
  • provide timely and constructive feedback to students and support their academic guidance and advisement
  • participate in curriculum reviews and provide consultancy on curriculum-related issues to other nursing schools
  • encourage self-evaluation and independent learning among students while maintaining confidentiality of assessment and advisement records
  • conduct independent and/or collaborative research, including proposal writing, data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • present research findings at local, national, or international conferences and workshops, and publish in peer-reviewed journals or academic books
  • ensure adherence to ethical standards in all research activities and support coordination of research activities
  • serve on at least three committees (e.g., school, hospital, university, or professional organizations), chairing at least one
  • provide input into strategic and long-term planning at the school and university levels
  • lead or contribute significantly to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of academic and development projects
  • participate in faculty recruitment and development activities.
  • represent the School in national and international forums and projects, ensuring alignment with institutional policies
  • provide consultancy services in areas of expertise in accordance with the University’s external engagement policy.

Requirements:

You should have:

  • PhD/DNSc or equivalent along with a Master’s degree (MScN/MPhil/MEd/MSc in MPH, Epidemiology, or HPM) with a basic nursing qualification (BScN/Post-RN/Diploma in Nursing) as a mandatory requirement
  • a minimum of 4 years of clinical and/or teaching experience
  • a valid PNC license
  • at least four published research papers, including a minimum of three research papers, with two as first author in peer-reviewed, indexed journals. At least one paper should have been published within the last two years
  • published book chapters, monographs, or consolidated reports as an author or co-author would be considered supplementary
  • demonstrated clinical competence as a professional nurse and the ability to serve as an effective role model
  • sound conceptual knowledge of nursing and/or the relevant field of specialization, with the ability to integrate theory into practice
  • good teaching skills and knowledge of contemporary teaching methodologies and practices
  • knowledge of current research methodologies and the ability to initiate research
  • ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with course participants
  • good academic writing and presentation skills
  • fluency in English and Urdu; proficiency in other regional languages would be an advantage
  • proficiency in the use of computers and relevant software applications
  • strong conceptual, analytical, and planning skills
  • sound knowledge of educational leadership and management
  • commitment to continuous learning, professional growth, and improvement.
