Tank Farm Operator

PURPOSE:
Manage ship-to-shore operations and oil movement activities (Tank Farm) in alignment with Lubricant Quality Standards. Supervise the daily blending of lubricants as scheduled by the Production Planner to ensure seamless operations and high-quality output.

NATURE AND SCOPE:
The Tank Farm Operator reports directly to the Plant Manager and is responsible for overseeing bulk receipt operations via marine vessels, ISO tanks, and tank lorries, ensuring accurate system-related activities and documentation.

This role's key challenge lies in producing on-spec batches without requiring corrections, ensuring precise input, and adherence to quality and safety standards. The operator supervises batch initiation, additive dosages, and compliance with laboratory instructions while documenting and reporting actual inputs and discrepancies.

Additionally, the operator ensures timely and accurate SAP entries for bulk receipts, facilitates lab sample dispatches, and coordinates with filling operations once lab clearance is confirmed.

This is a shift-based role and involves contractor staff management.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Tank Operations and Documentation:
   • Supervise weekly tank dipping and sealing/locking of tanks.
   • Record and arrange re-use of part fillers/slops based on laboratory guidance.
   • Document inputs for batches and blends, reporting discrepancies to the lab.
   • Perform accurate and timely system entries for bulk receipts in SAP.
2. Receipt Operations:
   • Supervise and perform decantation of base oil from tank lorries, ISO tanks, flexibags, and sea vessels.
   • Pre-arrival coordination between terminal and vessels for smooth operations.
   • Conduct hourly comparisons of ship-to-shore figures during receipt operations and verify quality and quantity of shipments.
   • Calculate loss/gain during receipt operations and perform root cause analysis (RCA) for variances.
3. Ship-to-Shore and Oil Movement Operations:
   • Conduct ship-to-shore operations in compliance with Group policies and best practices.
   • Manage oil movement facilities using manual and automated systems for product transfer, storage, and loading.
   • Handle non-standard discharge operations, including lightering and ship-to-ship transfers, while coordinating with port/jetty authorities.
4. Blending Operations:
   • Oversee blending processes.
   • Monitor additive dosage and ensure compliance with lab instructions.
   • Facilitate dispatch of blend samples to the laboratory and coordinate production based on lab clearance.
5. Equipment Maintenance and Coordination:
   • Liaise with the Maintenance team for repairs and upkeep of blending equipment, boiler, compressor, pumps, and related facilities.
   • Liaise with Planning and Maintenance teams to ensure maintenance of bulk storage tanks as per defined schedule.
   • Ensure calibration of all metering equipment in coordination with Maintenance team
   • Maximize availability of ship-to-shore, oil movement, and associated equipment.
6. Audit and Continuous Improvement:
   • Facilitate internal and external audits, ensuring accurate and complete documentation.
   • Address audit findings and implement corrective actions.
   • Identify and execute process improvement opportunities for efficiency and compliance.
7. Collaboration and Communication:
   • Engage regularly with vessel surveyors, handlers, and port authorities to ensure smooth discharge operations.
   • Conduct demurrage analysis to improve operational efficiency.
8. Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE):
   • Actively promote HSSE culture and mindset and engage in HSSE activities.
   • Conduct regular safety audits, drills, and compliance checks.
9. Quality and Environmental Management Systems:
   • Implement QMS and EMS practices as per ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 standards.
10. Additional Responsibilities:
    • Act as SAP Superuser for blending and receipt functions.
    • Ensure the safety of personnel and company assets throughout operations.

Key Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of ship-to-shore, oil movement operations and HSSE fundamentals.
• Proficiency in SAP.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to perform root cause analysis.
• Effective communication and collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Familiarity with quality and environmental management systems (ISO standards).

Education - Engineering (Petroleum/Chemical/Mechanical/Electrical)
Experience – 3 to 6 years
Work schedule - 5 day work week with shift duties and Saturday working based on production demand
