PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Our customer is a world-leading provider of transport solutions, driving the shift towards a sustainable transport system and creating a world of mobility that is better for business, society, and the environment.

You'll be part of the Vehicle Performance team that develops a reporting system within the customer portal, helping fleet owners understand and improve the performance of their vehicles and fleets.

We are looking for an experienced backend developer with deep expertise in Scala, ZIO and AWS. You will help develop reliable, scalable services while contributing across the full software development lifecycle - from design and implementation to deployment, monitoring and production support.

THE ROLE INVOLVES:

• Design, develop and maintain backend services using Scala and ZIO.
• Build reliable, scalable and maintainable solutions running on AWS.
• Contribute to architectural and technical design decisions.
• Develop and improve our GitLab CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Take ownership of services throughout their lifecycle, including deployment, monitoring and operational support.
• Act as the final engineering escalation point for complex customer-support cases by investigating production issues and identifying their root causes.
• Collaborate closely through mob programming, code reviews and shared technical discussions.
• Work within a Scrum team to plan and deliver valuable product improvements.
• Cooperate effectively with developers, product roles, customer-support teams and other teams.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of our engineering practices and ways of working.

TECHNICAL PLAYGROUND:

• 5+ years of software development experience in the Scala ecosystem.
• Deep knowledge of functional programming and the ZIO framework.
• Strong knowledge of AWS services and cloud-native architecture.
• Experience with DevOps, infrastructure, automated deployments and CI/CD.
• Hands-on experience with GitLab and GitLab CI/CD.
• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
• The ability to investigate complex problems across applications, infrastructure and integrations.

NICE TO HAVE:

• Previous experience with Akka.
• Understanding of modern frontend development using TypeScript and React.
• Familiarity with C#/.NET technologies.
• Experience working with AI-assisted development tools, agentic workflows or software engineering automation.

SOFT SKILLS:

• Fluent English, with good written and verbal communication skills.
• A collaborative mindset and enjoy solving problems together with others.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to cooperate across team boundaries.
• A sense of ownership for both delivered software and its operation in production.
• Desire to continuously learn and improve in a complex, rapidly evolving environment.
