Sounds great – what’s the role in a nutshell?

The Bosun is the senior deck rating and team leader within the deck department, responsible for overseeing the daily exterior operations, deck maintenance, and safety of the vessel. Reporting directly to the Chief Officer / First Officer, the Bosun leads, directs, and supervises the deckhand team to ensure the vessel maintains the highest luxury standards of presentation, guest service, and seamanship at all times.

Your passion is:

Deck Team Leadership & Maintenance Management

• • Supervise, direct, and work alongside the deck team to execute daily wash-downs, chamois drying, teak care, brightwork, painting, varnishing, and stainless steel polishing.
  • Organize and manage exterior work schedules, maintenance plans, and deck inventories, ensuring all tools, chemicals, and equipment are properly maintained and safely stored.
  • Identify exterior repair or maintenance needs and report them directly to the Chief Officer / First Officer.
  • Oversee waste management and garbage disposal onboard in full compliance with MARPOL and company environmental standards.

Navigational Safety, Watchkeeping & Drills

• • Stand bridge or deck watches as required by the Chief Officer, maintaining high situational awareness at anchor or underway.
  • Supervise deck watchkeeping routines and ensure deckhands adhere to safety protocols.
  • Take an active leadership role during mooring, anchoring, and tender operations, directing line handling, fender deployment, and anchor work.
  • Lead by example in all safety drills (fire, man overboard, abandon ship) and ensure all deck safety equipment, life rafts, and firefighting gear are routinely inspected and operational.

Tenders, Water Sports & Expedition Operations

• • Oversee the safe operation, maintenance, launching, and stowing of all tenders, skiffs, and water sports equipment (kayaks, paddleboards, jet skis, etc.).
  • Serve as a primary or senior tender captain when transferring guests on excursions, ensuring maximum safety and luxury service standards.
  • Manage the inventory, upkeep, and safety gear associated with all guest activity equipment.

Guest Service & Professional Standards

• • Coordinate guest transfers, luggage handling, and excursion support with professionalism, warmth, and discretion.
  • Foster a positive, motivated, and safety-minded culture within the deck team while maintaining a clean, professional appearance and demeanor at all times.

What are we looking for?

• • Certifications:
    • Valid STCW Basic Safety Training certification (STCW 95/2010).
    • Valid ENG1 or equivalent Seafarer Medical Certificate.
    • STCW Navigational Watch Rating (II/4) or Able Seafarer Deck (II/5) preferred.
    • Commercial Powerboat Level 2, RYA Yachtmaster, or local Equivalent Tender Operations License.
    • Designated Security Duties (STCW A-VI/6-2).
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 3 to 5+ years of maritime deck experience, with at least 1 to 2 years in a leadership role (Bosun or Lead Deckhand), ideally aboard luxury passenger vessels, expedition ships, or superyachts.
  • Skills & Knowledge:
    • Proven leadership ability to assign tasks, train junior crew, and maintain high exterior standards.
    • Advanced seamanship skills: line handling, wire rope work, advanced knot tying, splicing, anchoring, and mooring systems.
    • Expertise in exterior detailing (teak maintenance, high-end paint systems, varnishing, gelcoat repair, and polishing).
    • Strong tender handling and boat driving skills in varied sea conditions.
    • Fluent in English (written and spoken).
    • Excellent physical fitness, agility, and the ability to work long hours in diverse weather conditions.
