Examples of duties

Loudoun County Public Library is seeking to hire several part-time, intermittent, on-call Library Couriers to support materials delivery across the library system. This position is used to cover as an on call as needed basis. Scheduling is based on operational needs.

Position Summary:

• Operate the library’s 26-foot box truck on a regular route of over 100 miles round trip.
• Safely pick up and deliver books, media, mail, and equipment to eight library branches and Library Administration.

Key Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate safe and efficient driving techniques at all times.
• Maintain a valid driver’s license and remain eligible to operate County vehicles.
• Maintain working knowledge of designated routes, including city and town streets, roads, and highways.
• Sort book bins and distribute mail and library materials at each stop.
• Transport furnishings and equipment for on-site and off-site library programs as needed, with minimal impact on daily delivery schedules.

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Supplemental information

Successful candidates will undergo background checks as required. Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records will be reviewed annually for continued qualification). Complete any other required training.
