About the Position:

This position reports directly to the Criminal History Analysis & Improvement Unit Supervisor (Management Analyst 5) and supports the organization's mission by working with Criminal History Analysis & Improvement Unit program staff, participants, representatives of outside organizations and/or members of the public in defining needs and planning, designing, and developing specialized program activities; monitors and tracks staff and stakeholder participation in program activities.

About the Division:

The Justice Information Division (JID) manages the collection and dissemination of criminal justice information for enhanced public safety.
The Criminal History Records Section (CHRS) provides complete, accurate, and accessible criminal history record information (CHRI) in the interest of public safety.
The Criminal History Analysis & Improvement Unit (CHAI) is built upon the great work that has been done to improve the completeness and accuracy of CHRI reporting done through the National Criminal History Improvement Program (NCHIP) grant projects and through our training, auditing and outreach programs. CHAI staff compiles the Annual Disposition Reporting Compliance Audit which is sent to Criminal Justice Legislative Committees, the Office of Financial Management (OFM), the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC), the Washington Association of Prosecuting Attorneys (WAPA), and law enforcement and criminal justice agencies. In addition to these current efforts, some of the tasks the unit is responsible for include:

  • Implementing the Fix NICS state implementation plan.
  • Improve and build upon the disposition compliance audit program.
  • Participation in federal projects relating to criminal history records such as disposition compliance.
  • Work with Washington Criminal Justice Agencies to improve criminal history record reporting completeness and accuracy.
  • Explore and implement more LEAN ideas to streamline workflow.

Examples of duties

Our new teammate will be able to:

  • Understand and participate in the state and federal workflow process for fingerprint processing, criminal and civil fingerprint card submission, disposition reporting and entry, and projects related to criminal justice systems integration.
  • Coordinate with counties’ criminal justice agencies to hold biennial stakeholder meetings.
  • Reconcile WASIS RAPsheet with the FBI III.
  • Ensure training materials are up-to-date and complete.

Work Setting, including hazards:

Office environment. This position requires travel throughout the state providing training classes and livescan installations.

Schedule (i.e., hours and days):

Work hours may flex due to travel and working with customer needs and schedules.

Travel Requirements:

This position requires up to 50% travel throughout the state. Must have a valid Washington driver’s license and be qualified to drive a state owned vehicle. Must be able to travel alone or with others.

Tools and Equipment:

This position requires assembling, transporting, and disassembling equipment, laptop computers, projectors, speakers, fingerprint kits, etc. Requires moderate lifting of equipment to set up on tables and into and out of state vehicles.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have a valid Washington driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment and be qualified to drive a state owned vehicle. Must be able to travel alone or with others.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 3 years experience in criminal justice, business administration, social science, or a related field.
    • College level coursework in a related field may be substituted year-for-year for experience.
