Summary

The Department of Business and Industry is recruiting to fill an unclassified Deputy Insurance Commissioner position in Las Vegas. This position manages the Consumer Services and Investigations sections of the Division of Insurance and is responsible for the administrative oversight of the Las Vegas office.

The Consumer Services section assists consumers with complaints against insurance companies to determine if there were any violations of Nevada's Insurance Code and Regulations. Consumer Services staff also assist consumers over the phone and in person to answer questions regarding general insurance topics.

The Investigations section investigates suspected wrongdoing by regulated entities, including licensed producers, adjusters, brokers, bail agents, pre-need cemetery/funeral sellers and insurers.

Examples of duties

• Three years of experience leading teams of 15 or more and five years of direct insurance experience.
• Candidates should understand government operations, including the legislative process, funding, and administrative procedures, and possess intermediate insurance expertise with knowledge of market forces and industry trends.
• Three years of experience providing assistance to the public.
• Bachelors degree in insurance, risk management, or a related field is preferred.
• Professional designations such as CPCU, CIE, CFE, or AIRC are highly desirable.

Qualifications

The incumbent provides on-site management support for Corporate and Finance, Fraud Prevention, and Legal staff who are based out of the Las Vegas office. Under the general direction of the Nevada Insurance Commissioner, the incumbent provides leadership and oversight of the Consumer Services and Investigations sections of the Division. Additionally, this position will provide management support to Las Vegas based staff from the Corporate & Finance, Fraud Investigations and Legal sections. Responsibilities include working with section leadership to ensure that all required performance metrics and statutory requirements are being met. This would include required legislative reports, responding to consumer complaints, investigating producers of insurance, and development of regulatory actions and recommendations for updates and appropriate changes to Title 57 of the Nevada Revised Statutes. They provide mentorship to section leaders; maintain good working relationships with regulated entities to understand what is happening in the insurance markets; work to support the Silver State Healthcare Exchange, the Division of Health Care Financing and Policy, the Division of Industrial Relations, and other governmental agencies to advance the business of insurance in Nevada; and may make presentations to Legislative committees during both sessions and interim periods of the Nevada Legislature and take on delegated authority to act during periods when the Commissioner is out of the office. Attendance at National Association of Insurance Commissioner (NAIC) meetings is required.
