The anticipated hiring range is $92,049 - $122,887.

The City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities is seeking for highly qualified candidates to fill Engineer Principal - Water Supply Planning and Modeling Engineer position. The selected candidate will support DPU with drinking water supply planning analysis and modeling to support updates to a regional water supply plan, as well as City capital improvement projects, system planning, and operations as needed. The select candidate shall be proficient with Geographical Information Technology (GIS) and common industry software used for watershed modeling, such as HEC-HMS (watershed hydrology), HEC-RAS (river hydraulics), and MODFLOW (groundwater) or equivalent modeling software and must possess relevant technical knowledge. Following more immediate efforts around regional water supply planning, the selected candidate will take on more responsibility with development and upkeep of other models at the City, including process and hydraulic models of the water and wastewater treatment plants, and the City’s water distribution system.

Examples of duties

• Develop or review models to support regional water supply planning efforts
• Represent the City of Richmond in regional water supply planning efforts
• Perform scenario assessment to support future growth evaluation
• Coordinate with CIP and O&M teams to inform efforts with water supply planning information
• Assist with additional modeling over time, including development, upkeep, and analysis using hydraulic and process models of the water treatment plant and wastewater treatment plant
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor's Degree in engineering
• Five years of professional engineering experience
• Two years of supervisory experience preferred

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in water supply planning analysis and hydraulic modeling.
• Professional Engineering license in VA.
• Five (5) years of experience working with municipal drinking water system.
• Strong fundamentals of fluid mechanics, hydrology, and hydrolics.

LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Some assignments may require a Professional Engineering (PE) Registration
• Some assignments may require a valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record and a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License within 30 days of hire

In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be sedentary, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
