Die Maintenance Technician Job Description

Cooper's Houston is seeking an experienced and dependable Die Maintenance Technician to join our manufacturing operations in Humble, Texas . This is an immediate hiring opportunity for a hands-on technician with experience in industrial maintenance, tooling, extrusion, drawing dies, die repair, polishing, reconditioning, machining, and dimensional inspection .

The Die Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, inspecting, preparing, and managing extrusion and drawing dies and related tooling to support continuous production, product quality, safety, and manufacturing efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform die maintenance, die repair, polishing, reconditioning, and minor machining according to technical specifications and production requirements.
• Maintain and manage the complete tooling lifecycle , including tooling creation, usage, inspection, maintenance, replacement, disposal, and replacement requests.
• Inspect extrusion and drawing dies using dimensional measurement and metrology equipment to verify dimensions, tolerances, condition, and compliance with specifications.
• Conduct technical evaluations of dies and tooling and identify wear, damage, defects, and conditions that may affect production quality.
• Prepare, assemble, inspect, and stage extrusion and drawing tooling sets according to production schedules and manufacturing requirements.
• Analyze tooling performance and assist with root cause analysis (RCA) related to product defects, tooling failures, dimensional issues, and process deviations.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on dies and tooling to maximize tool life and minimize production downtime.
• Maintain accurate tooling records, maintenance documentation, inspection results, and production-related data for traceability.
• Manage tooling inventory and stock levels in SAP , including inventory control, traceability, transactions, and system updates.
• Collaborate with production, quality, engineering, and maintenance teams to troubleshoot tooling and manufacturing issues.
• Support continuous improvement and process optimization within extrusion and drawing operations.
• Ensure proper handling, storage, preservation, and use of dies, tooling, equipment, and maintenance materials.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with 5S, lean manufacturing, and workplace organization standards .
• Follow all company safety, quality, environmental, and operational procedures .
• Immediately report safety hazards, tooling issues, quality deviations, equipment problems, and incidents.
• Work effectively in a manufacturing environment, including rotating shifts, overtime, and production-driven schedules when required.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent – Required.
• At least 1 year of experience in industrial maintenance, manufacturing, machining, tooling, metalworking, or a related industrial environment.
• Hands-on experience with mechanical maintenance, tooling, dies, or manufacturing equipment preferred.
• Ability to perform hands-on die maintenance, polishing, reconditioning, inspection, and minor machining .
• Ability to read and understand technical specifications, measurements, drawings, and tooling requirements.
• Knowledge of dimensional inspection, precision measurement, and basic metrology preferred.
• Knowledge of industrial safety, quality procedures, and manufacturing standards.
• Technical training or education in machining, tooling, mechanical maintenance, industrial maintenance, or a related technical field is preferred.
• Equivalent hands-on industrial mechanical maintenance experience may be considered.
