Overview

The Department of Computer Science at Salem State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the open rank, beginning in Fall 2027. We particularly welcome candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: cloud computing, software engineering, and databases. The successful candidate will demonstrate a forward-looking vision for the computing field, a strong commitment to effective teaching and student learning in a four-year undergraduate program, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory, intermediate, and advanced courses in computer science and information technology, including courses within one or more of the preferred areas of specialization. The candidate will also be expected to contribute to departmental and university service and to maintain an active program of scholarly or professional development appropriate to the position and rank.

Duties and Responsibilities

Candidates are required to perform duties in accordance with the MSCA contract. Duties include teaching, advising, scholarship, and contributions to the continuous improvement of the department and university. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The position is subject to available funding.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  1. PhD in computer science or a closely related field. ABD with a master’s degree in computer science or a closely related field are welcome to apply. Conferral is required by May 2027.
  2. Experience in teaching introductory, intermediate-level, and advanced-level computer science and information technology courses.
  3. Experience applying the latest computing technologies into the curriculum.
  4. Innovative approaches to teaching one or more of the following: cloud computing, software engineering, and databases.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience in teaching upper-level computer science and information technology courses.
  2. Professional applied experience in computer science/information technology, in general, and cloud computing, software engineering, and databases, in particular.
  3. Demonstrated ability and willingness to apply innovative approaches and the latest applied teaching experience; and experience in and a commitment to teaching in a multicultural, multiracial environment with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles.

Working Location:

This is an on-site position in Salem, MA with on-campus, in-person responsibilities.
