This position is best suited for individuals who enjoy interacting with people. Helping people and answering their questions is the name of this game! Strong customer service skills are vital in this position as there is a lot of interaction with customers who need our help connecting with the services to best serve them.

Examples of duties

The Human Services Screener is a specialized clerical classification. Under limited supervision, this classification supports customers with public assistance programs and applications, explains policies and procedures, gathers and verifies facts and information, initiates cases through an automated system, and makes appropriate referrals for health, social and/or employment services. Knowledge of modern office practices is key. Skills needed for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs file clearance duties, including researching and assembling moderately complex information from a variety of sources for the preparation and establishment of public assistance or child support cases in statewide software programs and systems, enters and retrieves data from online computer systems, including generating, reviewing and correcting information as needed.
  • Schedules immediate or future appointments with Human Service Specialists.
  • Performs initial application interview for public assistance programs and services.

This position is temporary, part-time. A temporary, part-time employee works on average 20 hours but not more than 29 hours per week, for a maximum of 960 hours per fiscal year. Temporary employees earn sick leave, but are not eligible for other vacation or holiday pay, and are not eligible for medical, dental, or vision benefits, or CalPERS.

The Truckee Tahoe Workforce Housing Agency also helps Nevada County employees navigate housing in the Truckee Tahoe area, with a dedicated team to assist employees towards stable, secure housing, whether that is for rent or for purchase.
