Nutrition and Healthy Eating Intern

General Description of Duties: Coordinates programmatic support for the division programs and division-wide functions that support the Boston Healthy Childcare Initiative, healthy eating, physical activity, and chronic disease management. Supports projects as team members under the functional direction of team leads.

Examples of Specific Duties:

• Researching and developing fact sheets, newsletters, and social media content
• Assist coordination of BPHC’s workplace wellness initiative
• Assist coordination of BPHC’s Healthy Eating Series
• Assist the coordinate of BPHC’s Boston Healthy Childcare Initiative program
• Assist facilitating education and training for community stakeholders, including outreach, enrollment, material preparation, and participant data collection.
• Assist the division-wide projects, including supporting quality improvement initiatives.
• Assist the coordination of internal and external workgroups, including agenda development, note taking and after-meeting work.
• Communicate with external stakeholders about division programs and services.
• Coordinate data collection for specific program indicators and for division-wide quality improvement and performance management.
• Attend community meetings and events to share resources and staff information tables.
• Compile data and prepare reports, including for grant reporting.
• Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Undergraduate/ Graduate in community health, nutrition, public health, social work, health communications or related field of study
• Master’s degree in public health, Health Policy Administration, Social Work, Health Communications or related discipline quired work experience.
• Experience working in urban community or public health with diverse communities preferred.
• Knowledge of community public health concepts and best practices, including community engagement.
• Knowledge of current approaches to community chronic disease prevention and control, including healthy eating and active living.
• Experience in project coordination and excellent project coordination skills, including attention to detail and ability to develop and meet timelines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience creating flyers, infographics and other promotional materials.
• Experience creating content for social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
• Experience coordinating and facilitating meetings and events.
• Ability to establish rapport with others and to maintain harmonious working relationships with others. Ability to work effectively within team settings.
• Ability to understand and to work with numbers and compile basic data.
• Ability to develop report formats, prepare reports and to maintain accurate records.
• Intermediate or advanced level skills in using MSOffice, MSWord, and Excel.
• Experience and skill in using common social media applications for professional communications.
• Ability to establish effective communications and working relationships with community agencies and providers.
• Commitment to the role of public health in promoting racial justice and health equity.
• Understanding of the role of social determinants, including racism, in impacting health outcomes.
• Demonstrated cultural competence with the diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic groups.
• Prefer familiarity with Boston neighborhoods and community health programs.
• Bilingual and/or bicultural applicants encouraged them to apply. Language capacity in Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, Vietnamese, or Chinese preferred.
• Access to vehicles is desirable. Ability to travel throughout Boston to attend meetings and events.
