Qualifications

FUNCTION/POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Operates paint spray equipment to coat surface of products for required finished appearance. Spray manufactured components on conveyor line or individual stands. Performs material handling tasks related to Paint area including movement of products into and out of the area.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Prepares components for paint including application of masking tape or plugs.
  • Prepares surface of components prior to being painted including cleaning with solvent, sand paper/abrasives, wire brush or scraper.
  • Operates paint spray equipment. Makes adjustments to equipment to achieve desired spray.
  • Loads workpieces on conveyer.
  • Loads and moves materials to and from work area.
  • May make minor repairs and maintenance to equipment.
  • May perform paint quality inspections (example: viscosity checks).
  • Cleans spraying equipment with solvents and tools.
  • Monitors and replaces paint filters as necessary.
  • Cleans paint booth and general paint area.
  • Required to operate a forklift and overhead hoist.
  • Accurately records work order information and inventory transactions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Six months to one and one half years of experience in related painting preferred.
  • Ability to operate paint spray equipment.
  • Knowledge of characteristics of paint.
  • Knowledge of paint spray systems and equipment preferred.
  • Must be physically capable of wearing a pressure demand respirator.
  • Must be able to pass a pulmonary and respirator test according to OSHA guidelines. (Spirometric Examination)
  • Must have color acuity.
  • Ability to lift, push or pull 50 pounds alone.
  • Ability to climb ladders.
  • Good dexterity.
  • Able to work overtime and/or weekends as needed to meet production schedules.
