Summary

The County of Volusia is seeking an Inventory Control Specialist for the Corrections Division. This position is located in Daytona Beach, FL and will be responsible for work managing the receiving, storing, and issuing of supplies, materials, and equipment in the Volusia County Branch Jail.

NOTE: This position is located in the Volusia County Branch Jail; and will have daily contact with law enforcement personnel and inmates from a variety of different economic, social, educational, and ethnic backgrounds within the walls of a secured facility. The selected candidate will be working with inmate trustees that assist in manual labor tasks around the secured facility.

Examples of duties

• Manages the storeroom operations.* Orders, receives, unpacks, and stores goods and supplies.* May input an online purchasing request for supplies and services.* May coordinate activities with Purchasing.* Checks incoming materials against invoices or purchase orders and files requisitions.* Inspects goods received for conformance to quantity and quality specifications.* May process invoices for payment.* Maintains inventory and stock records and controls. Inputs inventory data into computer.* Estimates stock needs and inventory levels.* Devises and maintains safeguards against loss, deterioration, and damage to goods.* Reports any loss or misuse of materials and supplies to supervisor.* May coordinate machine repair calls.* Records inventory transactions to various accounting modules. Establishes reorder points for inventory based on usage.* Prepares periodic and special reports.* May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.* Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.* Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.* Responds to emergency situations.* Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED AND two (2) years of experience in the management of receiving, storing, and issuing supplies, maintaining inventory, and stock control records. The preferred candidate, having met the minimum requirements; will have experience working in a warehouse setting within a guarded facility (e.g. jail, school, hospital) AND will have experience using computerized inventory systems (e.g. LUCITY).

A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.

• Knowledge of a wide variety of supplies, materials, and equipment.* Knowledge of storeroom methods and procedures, including inventory record keeping and requisition and purchase procedures.* Knowledge and ability to utilize computer and related software.* Ability to operate mechanical equipment as required.* Ability to determine conformance of goods to prescribed specifications.* Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and with the public.* Physically able to perform a certain amount of lifting and related physical exertion in moving stock items.* Ability to operate material handling equipment such as dolly, hand truck, etc.* Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.* Ability to work under stressful conditions.* Ability to interact effectively with others.* Must be able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs.

ADA REQUIREMENTS:

Physical Demands: Medium to heavy work. Ability to see, lift (50 lbs), carry, push, pull, handle, climb, crouch/kneel, reach; finger dexterity. Visual acuity (peripheral vision and depth perception) necessary to operate a motorized vehicle.

Environmental Demands: Inside work. Ability to tolerate confined areas, dust. May require exposure to chemicals.

Mental Demands: Ability to read and comprehend work orders, instructions, safety procedures, invoices, memos, financial spreadsheet. Ability to perform general mathematical functions. Ability to speak clearly and concisely relaying information, details and data. Ability to write compound paragraphs relaying information and details.
