Summary

These positions are part of the Complex Litigation team, reporting to the Chief of Complex Litigation, under the leadership of the Solicitor General, located in either, Carson City or Las Vegas. Attorneys in the Complex Litigation Division should be well-versed in all aspects of trial practice, including case valuation, motion practice, pre-trial discovery, evidentiary hearings, trials, and post-trial motions and hearings. The work of the Division is intellectually challenging, fast-paced, and central to the Attorney General’s priorities for the office.

Examples of duties

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and graduation from an accredited law school. Litigation experience commensurate with the position applied for. Must be admitted to and in good standing with the State Bar of Nevada or be admitted and in good standing in another U.S. jurisdiction and eligible for limited practice certification in Nevada pursuant to SCR 49.1. Applicants must possess a valid Nevada driver’s license at the time of appointment.

Qualifications

Senior Deputy Attorney General: The successful applicant will have at least four years of litigation experience, ideally including trial work and/or high-stakes litigation. Applicants should demonstrate superior legal research, writing, oral advocacy, and litigation-management skills, as well as the ability to independently manage complex matters from initial assignment through resolution. The Senior Deputy Attorney General will exercise substantial independent judgment, may lead significant matters, and may provide substantive direction and oversight to other attorneys. The successful applicant should also demonstrate a commitment to continued development of advanced litigation skills through collaboration with the Chief of Complex Litigation and Solicitor General and through internal and external training.

Deputy Attorney General: The successful applicant will have litigation experience and demonstrated proficiency in legal research and writing, with the ability and commitment to continue developing oral advocacy, case management, and litigation skills. The Deputy Attorney General will conduct legal research, draft briefs and other substantive filings, participate in discovery and case preparation, present oral argument in state and federal trial courts, and handle matters with a level of independence appropriate to the attorney’s experience. Applicants should demonstrate the judgment, initiative, and ability to develop toward increasingly independent responsibility through substantive work with attorneys in the Division and through internal and external training.

Supplemental information

Applicants must possess strong legal research, analytical, written, and oral advocacy skills and knowledge of applicable state and federal court rules. Attorneys must exercise sound independent judgment and initiative; analyze complex legal and factual issues; manage competing priorities and deadlines; maintain consistent progress on assigned matters; and communicate clearly and professionally with clients, colleagues, opposing counsel, courts, and other stakeholders. Attorneys must demonstrate professionalism, discretion, accountability, ethical conduct, and the ability to remain focused and composed in adversarial, high-pressure, or time-sensitive situations.
