POSITION SUMMARY

The Store Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and daily operation of the store. This position leads and develops the store team while ensuring strong execution in customer service, sales, merchandising, staffing, inventory control, loss prevention, safety, and company programs.

Successful Store Managers lead by example, set clear expectations, hold themselves and their teams accountable, and create an environment where Team Members can succeed.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Recruit, interview, select, onboard, train, and develop Store Team Members.
  • Provide consistent leadership, coaching, recognition, and performance feedback.
  • Establish clear expectations and hold Team Members accountable for performance and company standards.
  • Build an engaged, dependable team capable of delivering consistent results.
  • Develop Team Members for additional responsibilities and future advancement opportunities.
  • Complete performance evaluations and address performance or conduct concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Create effective staffing and scheduling plans based on business and customer needs.
  • Foster a professional, respectful, inclusive, and team-oriented work environment.

Customer Experience

  • Create a welcoming environment where customers consistently receive friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful service.
  • Lead by example and reinforce company customer-service expectations with every Team Member.
  • Monitor customer-service performance and use available feedback as coaching and development tools.
  • Recognize outstanding customer service and address opportunities for improvement.
  • Respond to customer questions and concerns professionally and work toward timely resolution.
  • Develop a store culture focused on building customer loyalty and repeat business.

Sales & Business Performance

  • Take ownership of store sales, gross margin, expenses, and overall business performance.
  • Understand store performance metrics and use available information to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Execute company promotions, programs, and merchandising initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to grow sales and improve store profitability.
  • Manage controllable expenses, payroll, scheduling, and other store resources responsibly.
  • Communicate store performance, challenges, and opportunities with the District Manager.

Store Operations & Merchandising

  • Oversee all daily store operations and ensure company policies, procedures, and programs are consistently executed.
  • Maintain company standards for merchandising, product presentation, pricing, signage, cleanliness, and overall store appearance.
  • Coordinate receiving, stocking, replenishment, and freight activities efficiently.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels and support accurate inventory practices.
  • Ensure the sales floor, stock areas, cooler, office, exterior, and customer areas are clean, organized, safe, and ready for business.
  • Complete required reports, administrative responsibilities, and operational paperwork accurately and on time.

Safety, Compliance & Loss Prevention

  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for customers and Team Members.
  • Follow and enforce company safety, security, loss prevention, and shrink-control procedures.
  • Identify potential operational, safety, or loss-prevention concerns and take appropriate action.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Protect company assets, merchandise, cash, equipment, and confidential information.
  • Immediately communicate significant safety, security, compliance, or operational concerns to appropriate leadership.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises the store team and is responsible for the overall leadership, development, scheduling, performance, and accountability of Store Team Members.

Requirements

Qualifications - Preferred qualifications include:

  • Two or more years of retail, customer service, or related leadership experience, or successful completion of the BRL Manager in Training Program.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, motivate, and develop a team.
  • Strong commitment to customer service and operational excellence.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to understand and use business information and performance metrics.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to provide clear direction and constructive performance feedback.
  • Dependable, adaptable, and willing to respond to changing business priorities.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Team Members, customers, vendors, and company leadership.
  • Ability to work a flexible retail schedule based on business needs.

Physical Requirements While performing the essential functions of this position, the Team Member may be required to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, reach, and climb as necessary.
  • Stock, move, and handle merchandise throughout the store.
  • Perform repetitive lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
  • Work in refrigerated cooler areas and environments with varying temperatures.
  • Safely lift, move, push, or pull merchandise and equipment as required by the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Perform multiple tasks while maintaining awareness of customers, Team Members, and store operations.

Work Environment - This position works primarily in a retail store environment that may include:

  • Moderate to high levels of customer and operational activity.
  • Periods of increased noise and activity.
  • Varying temperatures, including refrigerated beer coolers.
  • Regular interaction with customers, Team Members, vendors, and company leadership.
  • A fast-paced environment requiring flexibility and the ability to adjust priorities.
