Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- This job requires technical and administrative support for departmental computer laboratories and office operations.
- Responsibilities include installing, configuring, and updating software on Ubuntu Linux and Windows computers; troubleshooting common operating system, software, network, and peripheral issues; assisting with computer maintenance and hardware installation or upgrades, including memory, storage devices, and other computer components; and helping maintain laboratory computers in reliable working condition.
- The Assistant also supports general office activities such as scanning and organizing documents, creating and maintaining Excel spreadsheets, preparing and formatting documents and presentations using Microsoft Office applications, managing electronic files, and performing other technical or administrative tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent and current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Candidates should have practical experience using Windows and/or Ubuntu Linux computers and be comfortable installing software, configuring applications, and performing basic computer troubleshooting.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and the ability to perform general office and document- management tasks are required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (if any):
- Working knowledge of Windows and Ubuntu Linux operating systems, software installation and configuration, file systems, user accounts, computer networking, and basic computer security practices is desirable.
- Ability to diagnose common computer hardware and software problems and perform basic hardware maintenance and upgrades, including installing or replacing RAM, storage drives, peripherals, and other components, is expected.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and common document and scanning tools is required.
- Candidates should have strong organizational and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, the ability to follow technical instructions and document completed work, and the ability to communicate effectively and work independently while handling multiple laboratory and office support tasks.
