Role Summary

The Portfolio Specialist is a member of the Investment Division and a key member of the Target Date investment team. The position serves as a critical link between portfolio management, distribution, clients, and broader business partners. It requires deep investment and retirement expertise, strong commercial judgment, and close collaboration with portfolio managers to help position, represent, and develop our capabilities.

This role will partner with the existing Target Date Portfolio Specialist to serve as strategic leads for investment messaging across assigned strategies. The role is both investment-led and client-facing. The Portfolio Specialist helps advance prospective opportunities by working closely with portfolio analysts, institutional writers, RFP editors, and other associates, while also playing a key role in retaining existing client assets.

The role requires the ability to lead high-impact engagements with clients and prospects to better understand their specific needs, identify potential solutions utilizing existing capabilities, and translate insights from across our investment platform into clear and compelling messages for clients, prospects, consultants, and internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a core member of the Target Date Solutions investment team, contributing to portfolio, market, performance, client, product, and broader franchise discussions.
  • Serve as a key contributor to the strategy’s commercial and investment narrative, ensuring clear, consistent, and compelling messaging across diverse audiences.
  • Build deep partnerships with portfolio managers to accurately represent their investment process, positioning, and views, while serving as an extension of the investment team with clients, prospects, consultants, and distribution partners.
  • Serve as a Target Date strategy expert, articulating investment philosophy, process, positioning, performance, risk profile, competitive positioning, and client relevance.
  • Drive commercial growth and asset retention through client engagement, prospecting, consultant support, marketing, and partnership with Distribution. Help shape solutions, content, and positioning that connect investment insights with evolving client needs.
  • Partner with Distribution throughout the client and prospect lifecycle, from early-stage discovery and positioning through due diligence, finals, and ongoing client engagement, helping advance opportunities and deepen existing relationships.
  • Bring the voice of the client and market back to the investment team, synthesizing insights from clients, consultants, Distribution, competitors, and industry trends to help inform positioning, messaging, and franchise priorities.
  • Contribute to the strategic development of the Target Date franchise, partnering with portfolio management and business leadership on competitive positioning, product evolution, strategic priorities, and commercialization efforts.
  • Serve as a senior investment resource for internal partners, helping Distribution and other stakeholders deepen their understanding of Target Date investing, our capabilities, and how best to position them with clients.
  • Travel regularly to support investment team, client, and Distribution efforts.
