Quality Engineering Manager

Standard Job Description

Lead and oversee the receiving inspection function and on‑site supplier quality engineering activities to ensure all incoming materials and components meet Lockheed Martin Space's quality standards. Drive continuous improvement, foster strong supplier and customer relationships, and guarantee compliance with regulatory and internal requirements.

Manages those who apply quality principles in the areas of: design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation, program performance, reliability, inventory control, and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality for make and/or buy products. Performs technical evaluations including product requirements, specifications, models/designs, drawings and procedures. Collaborates with program management, engineering, manufacturing, supply chain and customers on quality related issues to ensure quality standards are in place. Engages in product failure investigations, material review board decisions and corrective/preventive action. Ensures corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and/or are compliant with requirements. Develops strategies and systems designed to improve internal and/or supplier performance and productivity. Evaluates quality systems for deficiency identification and correction. Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms and equipment; conducts product quality tests, performs statistical analysis to assess products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications. Engages in supplier selection process and maintain certification programs.

Basic Qualifications

Prior experience working as a Quality Engineer/Supplier Quality Engineer.

Prior experience working with SAP, P2P, VECAMs/Apriso and Windchill or other resource planning, manufacturing execution, and production lifecycle management systems.

Strong working knowledge of AS9100 Quality Management System.

Experience managing supplier nonconformances, SCARs, corrective actions, root-cause investigations, containment and effectivenss verifications.

Understanding of receiving inspection processes, including inspection planning, sampling, acceptance criteria, material certifications, traceability, and control of nonconforming material.

Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T, tolerances, purchase order requirements, and tech data packages.

Familiarity with inspection equipment and methods such as calipers, micrometers, optical inspection and other dimensional inspection techniques.

Ability to make risk-based decisions about containment, inpection levels, supplier escalation, source inspection and production impact.

Understanding of aerospace related special processes.

Demonstrated ability to develop and manage supplier and receiving inspection metrics.

Desired Skills

Bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited college in a technical discipline (e.g., engineering field) or equivalent discipline (e.g., math, physics, chemistry, etc.).

Prior experience working with 1LMX solutions such as Apriso.

Prior experience in more than one quality discipline such as auditing, program, or production support.

People-mangement skills including staffing, workload prioritization, employee development, performance management, and coordination across multiple shifts or facilities.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Program Management, Material Review Board, and customers.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $104900.00 - $194700.00

Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
