JOB SUMMARY: The Refrigeration Service Technician II is responsible for the support of operations through the maintenance, installation, and repair of refrigeration/heating/ ventilation systems used in KVAT retail stores. Additionally, this role is responsible for processing and completing work orders, installing new refrigeration systems, troubleshooting mechanical failures, and performing equipment maintenance under the direction of the Divisional Refrigeration Manager and technical guidance and oversight of Refrigeration Technician III. This level of technician must be able to work independently during the normal work week and while on-call with only minimum to moderate supervision.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Take ownership of refrigeration systems in K-VA-T facilities and become a proactive partner of all assigned stores in the working division.
  • Inspect, repair, modify, and install HVAC equipment including refrigeration and air conditioning compressors, receivers, condensers, chillers, water cooling towers, forced air converter units, pumps, automatic and hand valves, expansion valves, and capillary tubes.
  • Conduct periodic checks and perform preventive maintenance on refrigeration and HVAC equipment so that critical failures do not occur.
  • Diagnose and maintain all mechanical, electrical, and control aspects of the supermarket refrigeration systems through repair or replacement of defective parts in units and equipment and their controls. This includes thermostats, automatic switches, fan controls, log switches, damper motors, louvers, relays, filters, controls, belts, compressors, heat exchangers, high limit control, pressure control, safety valves, and automatic gas valves.
  • Install new/remove old refrigeration and HVAC equipment as needed for remodel and upgrades.
  • Conceive and help develop procedures and strategies that can be adopted companywide for improved performance, reduced downtime, and cost reduction.
  • Maintain all records necessary for government and company purposes.
  • Perform essential job functions and manage time effectively with minimum supervision.
  • Travel to and visit retail locations and KVAT facilities as needed to provide repairs, new installs, and general maintenance.
  • Ensure efficient and courteous customer service to store locations in support of the company mission to “Run the Best Store in Town!”
  • Responsible for attending on-site work during scheduled shifts to adhere to company time and attendance policies.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is required
  • Must possess a valid and unrestricted U.S. Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the company’s insurance carrier standards.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in HVAC and refrigeration maintenance with completion of an accredited training program on the principals of refrigeration preferred.
  • Experience with Carlyle screw compressors, Danfoss controllers, single/parallel compressor systems, and secondary or chilled water systems and the ability to troubleshoot and maintain these systems independently with moderate supervision.
  • Competence with electronic refrigeration control systems.
  • Must possess a valid EPA refrigerant certification.
  • Must be well organized, dependable, maintain the strictest confidentiality, and exhibit professional conduct.
  • Must be detail oriented and possess strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and recognize work related needs to pursue successful completion.
  • Ability to think critically, innovate, and solve challenging technical issues.
  • Ability to work a varied work schedule with frequent travel.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and/or written instructions, perform routine and repetitive tasks, and have constant contact/interaction with various levels of individuals daily.
  • Ability to attend on-site work during scheduled shifts to adhere to company time and attendance policies
