Summary

The Director of Curriculum Design will be responsible for providing expertise and oversight in the design, development, and implementation of online courses published within the ACCS Innovation Center. The position promotes the use of technology-based resources in education pedagogy by providing consultation, instruction, and assistance related to technology-supported instruction. This position requires the ability to represent the ACCS Innovation Center and the ACCS in collaborating and consulting with industry partners, stakeholders, subject-matter experts, contracted employees, and community colleges on the effective use of learning strategies, web-based resources, multimedia technologies, and instructional applications and systems that improve teaching and learning, professional development, and job training in the state of Alabama.

Examples of duties

1. Represent and promote the ACCS Innovation Center’s Skills for Success library— a comprehensive catalog of industry-aligned, customized training courses developed to meet workforce needs across Alabama — by engaging with business and industry partners, trade associations, and sector stakeholders statewide to communicate how training programs are developed, promote available course offerings, and facilitate requests for new program development where workforce gaps exist.
2. Provide consultation on all instructional design including established (Canvas) and custom learning management systems for ACCS Innovation Center courses.
3. Utilize web-based learning management system capabilities to create, enhance, and produce learning objectives, assessments, and interactive lessons for participants in a credentialing/micro-credentialing process.
4. Apply research-based learning theories including needs and task analysis, pedagogical theory, assessment strategies, and innovation using best practices for the development of online courses.
5. Recruit, interview, and supervise curriculum department staff to support course development and program delivery. Coordinate and manage resources from vendors and contracted personnel to ensure project deliverables are met on time and aligned with program requirements.
6. Consult and advise curriculum department staff and vendors on advantages, disadvantages, and feasibility of various methods of instruction specific to their course content.
7. Evaluate performance of staff by establishing objectives and measurements and provide constructive feedback on a regular basis.
8. Develop and implement evaluation techniques to measure the effectiveness of course content, materials, and overall learning experience, as well as quality assurance/improvement strategies to assess and evaluate online education.
9. Work collaboratively with ACCS Innovation Center and Alabama Community College System leadership and lead initiatives for professional development of faculty and staff in support of online education and technology-supported teaching. Provide training and professional development support for other state agencies and organizations as needed.
10. Facilitate and instruct group and one-on-one training sessions on the use of multiple applications for instruction and training.
11. Troubleshoot and resolve technological and technical design process issues in order to complete projects accurately.
12. Effectively manage time and project scopes to meet delivery schedules.
13. Effectively communicate with community organizations, colleges, and ACCS staff, in writing, orally, and through public speaking platforms.
14. Evaluate and ensure all online courses meet and maintain the qualities of the ACCS credential award and/or micro-credentialing process as defined by Alabama State Legislature Act 2019-506.
15. Work with local and regional economic development groups, chambers of commerce, state agencies, and other organizations to promote ACCS Innovation Center course offerings, raise awareness of available customized training programs, and identify opportunities for new program development to meet workforce needs across Alabama.

SECONDARY JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. As assigned by the Chief of Operations, represent and promote the ACCS Innovation Center by leading task forces, serving on committees, and attending regional meetings.
2. Participate in ongoing professional development to stay apprised of current research and best practice technologies, innovations, and production practices including the future of work and education trends.
3. Assist the Chief of Operations in building consensus around strategic initiatives and operational processes that are aligned with the ACCS Innovation Center, colleges, and the ACCS.
4. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

1. Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in corporate environment or Higher Ed with focus on job training and management, instructional design, administrative duties, and/or supervisory or managerial experience; OR an Associate’s Degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of four (4) years of experience in corporate environment or Higher Ed with focus on job training and management, instructional design, administrative duties, and/or supervisory or managerial experience.
2. Proficiency in project management with experience using project management platforms such as Monday.com, Asana, Smartsheet, or similar systems.
3. Experience/background in delivering customized instruction and training, public speaking, and student advocacy.
4. Experience designing, developing, implementing, and revising online courses and course materials in a higher education environment.
5. Proven experience creating engaging learning activities and compelling course content.
6. Extensive knowledge of Canvas learning management systems and a robust suite of instructional technologies that comprise a contemporary digital learning environment.
7. Demonstrated proficiency in Articulate 360 and/or Articulate RISE for eLearning course development.
8. Ability to multi-task, organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with attention to detail; work independently in meeting various time deadlines and work pressures with frequent interruptions.
9. Ability to work independently with or without direct supervision.
10. Possess a desire to continuously learn, explore, and experiment with new technology and technological advances that will promote positive learning outcomes.

PREFERRED

1. Master’s Degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in corporate environment or Higher Ed with focus on job training and management, instructional design, administrative duties, and/or supervisory or managerial experience.
2. Quality Matters certified.
3. Teaching experience in a career/technical education program.
4. Experience with additional eLearning authoring tools and multimedia production software.
