Everforth ECS is seeking an Embedded Firmware Engineer to join the RPL team in Chantilly, VA.
We're looking for an Embedded Firmware Engineer to design, develop, and maintain embedded software for our hardware products. You will work closely with hardware, software, and product teams to deliver reliable, high-performance firmware solutions that power and drive our newest relief-providing devices.
You Will
Design, develop, and debug firmware for embedded systems and microcontrollers
Collaborate with hardware engineers to define system architecture and hardware/firmware interfaces
Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code in C and C++
Develop and execute unit tests, integration tests, and system validation
Optimize firmware for performance, memory usage, and power consumption
Troubleshoot and resolve issues in embedded systems and field deployments
Contribute to code reviews and maintain thorough technical documentation
Support bring-up and validation of new hardware platforms
Occasional domestic and international travel (up to 15% of the time, several times a year) to support installations, testing and other project related activities.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
3+ years of experience in embedded firmware development
Strong proficiency in C/C++ programming
Experience working with microcontrollers and embedded systems (bare-metal and RTOS)
Familiarity with hardware interfaces such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, and USB
Experience using debugging tools (programmer/debuggers, power supplies, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG, etc.)
Understanding of memory management, interrupts, and real-time constraints
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
Effective communication and teamwork skills
Willingness to learn and take direction from senior Engineers
Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government DoD Security Clearance.
Desired Skills
3+ years in electronic circuit analysis and design applications, such as:
Altium or Siemens/Mentor Graphics PADS
SPICE/PSPICE
MATLAB
Keysight Pathwave/Genesys/ADS, AWR Microwave Office or Ansys HFSS
ModelSim, Vivado, Vitis or Quartus
3+ years of experience with FPGA designs, VHDL and/or Verilog.
Experience with FPGA soft CPU cores similar to AMD Microblaze or Altera Nios II.
Experience with 8051 assembly
Experience with designing/debugging high speed interfaces (1GE, PCIe, and DDRx).
Experience with hardware & software codesign in Zynq UltraScape+ RFSoCs.
Experience in Radio Frequency (RF) circuit modeling, analysis and design and/or Digital Signal Processing (DSP).
Experience with high-speed digital design, including signal integrity and clock domain crossing.
Familiarity with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT).
Coursework or direct experience with radar systems, including:
Radar system design and analysis
Radar signal processing and simulation
Understanding of basic RF and microwave engineering principles, including:
Transmission lines and matching networks
Filter design and analysis
Harmonic balance and non-linear effects
Cascaded noise figure and signal-to-noise analyses
Radio Frequency/Electromagnetic Interference (RFI/EMI) effects and mitigation techniques
Time- and frequency-domain relationships and analysis techniques
Active US Government DoD Secret Security Clearance or higher.
