At EA, we believe games are powerful because they bring together multiple ways people engage: play, watch, create, and connect. And increasingly, the biggest entertainment platforms aren't just places to consume content — they're places where communities build.

Creator-made content is already a proven part of EA's history — from community creation tools in Battlefield to The Gallery in The Sims 4. We believe new creative technologies and tools will expand how players engage with and contribute to our experiences, supported by thoughtful product design, safety systems, and global reach. Our focus is on enabling more players to participate in creative expression by making creation easier, safer, and more rewarding.

As a Senior Environment Artist you will partner with the Senior Art Director and play a foundational role in establishing the visual language, world identity, and material style for new game projects from the ground up. You will create high-quality, real-time assets, modular kits, and full environments for playable demos, prototypes, and vertical slices. You possess a deep understanding of world-building, composition, and game engine implementation, combined with the craft leadership to set production standards. This role will offer opportunities to provide mentorship, lead reviews, and help guide the overall direction of the environment art discipline.

This is a hybrid role, onsite three days a week in Redwood City, California, Montreal or Vancouver Canada.

As the Senior Environment Artist you will report to the Senior Art Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Create high-quality real-time environments, architecture, props, and modular kits for playable demos, prototypes, and vertical slices.
  • Establish the environment art quality bar and production standards, while providing mentorship, feedback, and craft direction.
  • Partner closely with Art Direction to define the project's visual language, materials, scale, color, composition, and overall world identity.
  • Design modular environment content that can be reused, adapted, and expanded as the project and gameplay evolves.
  • Collaborate with Technical Art and Engineering on procedural, scalable, and efficient environment workflows for real-time production.
  • Ensure playable spaces support composition, texturing, lighting, readability, navigation, and gameplay clarity while staying cohesive with the established visual direction.
  • Lead environment reviews across internal and external production, helping maintain quality, guide priorities, and support future team growth.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise in AAA game development with 8+ years of professional environment art experience and shipped console or PC titles.
  • Strong portfolio showing high-quality real-time environments, architecture, props, modular world-building, and visual storytelling.
  • Experience mentoring artists, leading art reviews, and providing craft direction is required; experience leading or managing small internal or external art teams is preferred.
  • Deep understanding of modeling, UVs, texturing, materials, optimization, modular construction, and real-time environment production.
  • Strong artistic sensibility across composition, scale, color, lighting, shape language, materials, and gameplay readability.
  • Strong experience with modern environment pipelines and tools such as Maya, Blender, Substance 3D, Houdini, ZBrush, Unreal, Unity, Frostbite, or comparable tools and engines.
  • Experience adapting environment art across different game genres, visual styles, gameplay needs, procedural workflows, UGC systems, or AI-assisted content pipelines is a plus.
