Japanese Language Manager - TikTok Shop

The mission of our team is to make TikTok Shop an engaging and trusted global e-Commerce platform by embedding our expertise in content systems, language, and writing into product development. We craft cohesive, consistent, inclusive, and branded experiences that effectively help our users achieve their goals.

Responsibilities:

• Own linguistic quality, tone of voice (ToV), and end-to-end localization delivery for the Japanese market in TikTok Shop.
• Act as the primary Japanese localization expert for Product, Design, and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Oversee Japanese linguistic quality via LQA audits, in-context testing, and UX/content review.
• Establish and maintain Japanese localization guidelines, e-Commerce terminology standards, and CJK typography/UI line-breaking rules across iOS, Android, and Web.
• Leverage AI-powered localization by optimizing LLM prompts, MT post-editing (MTPE) workflows, and quality evaluation criteria.
• Build and maintain language assets such as Japanese terminology databases, translation memories, and style guides.
• Manage external localization vendors (LSPs), conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for quality issues, and drive continuous training and improvement.

Minimum Qualification(s)

• Japanese proficiency with deep cultural insights into the Japanese market; fluent professional English.
• 1+ years of experience in translation/transcreation/localization (or related fields), including 2+ years in language management/lead linguist/locale ownership roles.
• Hands-on experience with CAT tools, Translation Management Systems (TMS), and LQA frameworks.
• Proven experience in Japanese UI localization (CJK typography, truncation, line-breaking) for mobile and web.
• Demonstrated experience leveraging AI/LLM tools for localization (e.g., prompt engineering, output evaluation, MTPE).
• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills; able to independently manage localization initiatives and communicate across time zones.
