POSITION SUMMARY: The Housekeeping Manager is responsible for the overall administration and execution of daily housekeeping operations, ensuring the facility remains clean, safe, and properly maintained. This includes oversight of in-house staff and external contract personnel, as well as occasional supervision of facility stewards. Key duties include workforce scheduling, staff training, quality assurance, inventory management, and ensuring adherence to safety, sanitation, and regulatory standards. The manager works collaboratively with internal departments to promote guest satisfaction and preserve the integrity of Kroc Center Hawaii’s assets. The Housekeeping Manager will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the way he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent; college education preferred.
  2. Minimum 2–3 years of housekeeping or customer service experience in a supervisory/managerial role.
  3. Knowledge of housekeeping standards, safety practices, and operational procedures.
  4. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  5. Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  6. Basic computer proficiency (e.g., MS Office).
  7. Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  8. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.

PREFERENCES:

  1. OSHA Training Certificate.
  2. Experience with work order systems.
  3. Customer service or related professional certifications.
  4. Extensive knowledge related to commercial housekeeping/custodial best practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Staff Management and Training:

  1. Provide supervision, mentorship, and motivation to housekeeping personnel; support stewards when needed as assigned, ensuring consistent seven-day operations and 24-hour coverage during major events such as Project Grad Nights.
  2. Train new staff in cleaning techniques, safety procedures, and organizational policies.
  3. Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching.
  4. Develop and manage daily/weekly schedules, ensuring proper staffing coverage.

Quality Assurance:

  1. Inspect all facility areas including public spaces, rooms, and back-of-house, to ensure cleanliness and safety standards are upheld.
  2. Address and follow up on cleanliness, maintenance, or safety concerns.
  3. Perform routine audits and maintain checklists to ensure operational consistency.

Inventory and Supply Management:

  1. Order and maintain appropriate levels of cleaning supplies, linens, and equipment.
  2. Track usage to control costs and reduce waste.
  3. Ensure proper handling, storage, and safe use of chemicals and cleaning equipment.

Guest & Member Relations:

  1. Respond to complaints, requests, and concerns promptly and professionally.
  2. Coordinate with maintenance and other departments to ensure timely issue resolution.
  3. Maintain cleanliness and presentation standards in all guest-facing areas.

Health, Safety & Compliance:

  1. Enforce safety protocols, proper PPE use, and adherence to sanitation standards.
  2. Identify and report hazards or maintenance needs for prompt correction.
  3. Support implementation of housekeeping and safety policies.

Administrative & Operational Support

  1. Develop and improve housekeeping procedures and operational efficiencies.
  2. Maintain staff schedules, track labor hours, and support budget planning.
  3. Manage payroll processing and staff timekeeping.
  4. Lead department meetings and communicate operational updates.
  5. Participate in the TLD program that requires 1-2 evening shifts per month.

MENTAL DEMANDS:
The position requires strong administrative and organizational skills, and attention to detail. Must prioritize and organize work assignments and take projects from beginning through completion. The work will be in a fast-paced environment and requires changing priorities constantly while meeting deadlines. The position must maintain poise under pressure, respond to crisis situations in a calm and effective manner, and be resilient in the face of workplace stressors such as customer service complaints, maintaining the security of people and property, competing priorities, etc. This position must maintain an initiative-taking and self- directed schedule, able to work with limited supervision, and in a team setting with other professionals. This position must possess the self-discipline necessary to perform repetitive tasks without lowering quality of work, exercise good judgment and be comfortable taking initiative with projects.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Manual dexterity, vision, and coordination required. Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 25 lbs. without assistance and occasionally more than 25 lbs. with assistance. Ability to work all shifts, including weekends, evenings, holidays, and special events.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:
The position requires talking to co-workers, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, clients, vendor; talking on the telephone; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, clients, and vendors; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies.

The position requires the ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. The position requires the ability to collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Most work will be indoors at the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center Hawaii) administration office. There will also be times when this employee will be outdoors at the Kroc Center Hawaii. Attendance at trainings and conferences, both in Hawaii and on the mainland, may be required.

EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE
Equipment used includes general office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, printers, fax machines, telephone (office, cell, PDA), microphones, audio-visual equipment, 10-key calculator, and automobile.

CERTIFICATES & LICENSES:
The candidate chosen for this position must have a valid driver’s license and insured transportation.
On an annual basis, employees are required to participate in The Salvation Army’s Fleet Safety Program.
