Facilities Maintenance Technician

Overview

Every hotel room, condo, and public space at Big Sky Resort depends on someone who notices the details before a guest ever has to. That's this role. As a Facilities Maintenance Technician, you're the person behind the scenes making sure things work the way they should, and the person guests and team members turn to when something doesn't.

You'll be assigned to specific hotels or facilities within the Mountain Village Base Area, tackling everything from a leaky faucet to a flickering light to a full room turn during the off season. If you're already handy with tools and comfortable troubleshooting your way through a problem, this role gives you the range to keep building on that, picking up new skills across plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry while working alongside a team that knows the trades well. What matters most is a strong work ethic, a genuine care for doing things right, and the people skills to make every guest and team member interaction a good one.

Responsibilities

• Execute a variety of maintenance projects in hotel rooms, condominiums, public areas, and team member only spaces
• Perform basic plumbing repairs such as fixing leaks, unclogging drains, and replacing fixtures
• Perform basic electrical tasks such as replacing outlets, switches, and light fixtures, under supervision as needed
• Assist with HVAC upkeep including filter changes, basic troubleshooting, and reporting system issues to senior technicians
• Complete carpentry and general building repairs, including drywall patching, door and hardware adjustments, and furniture repair
• Respond promptly to work orders submitted through our maintenance tracking system and document work completed
• Conduct routine preventive maintenance rounds to catch issues before they become guest facing problems
• Assist with large scale maintenance projects during the off season, including room turns and property wide upgrades
• Safely handle, store, and dispose of chemicals and hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols
• Interact directly and professionally with guests when entering occupied rooms or public spaces, representing the resort with courtesy and respect
• Communicate clearly with guests and team members about the status of a repair or work order, setting expectations and following up when needed
• Handle guest concerns or maintenance complaints calmly, escalating to a supervisor when appropriate
• Collaborate professionally with a large, diverse maintenance staff across trades and shifts
• Develop cross departmental relationships to support timely issue resolution
• Support on call or after hours coverage on a rotating basis as needed during peak season
• Actively pursue continued education, training, and relevant certifications as the resort supports trade specific growth over time

Qualifications

• Hands on experience with basic home, trade, or mechanical repair (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or similar)
• Comfort using hand and power tools and troubleshooting your way through a problem
• Strong customer service instincts and comfort interacting with guests in person, including in occupied rooms and shared spaces
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
• Willingness to work weekends and holidays during peak operational periods
• Strong communication skills and ability to self manage tasks
• Comfortable learning and using a digital work order system

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted
• Comfortable working on feet for extended periods
• Capable of bending, kneeling, reaching overhead, and using ladders
• Willing to work in both indoor and outdoor environments across all seasons, including cold and snowy conditions
