Assistant Director of Operations and Environmental Affairs

Purpose
To lead the company in all aspects of Environmental Affairs and Distribution, developing strategic vision and goals to ensure employee safety and environmental and regulatory responsibilities for the development, implementation and administration of comprehensive environmental compliance programs for the Company.

Areas of Responsibility / Tasks
Essential Functions
a. Practices the principles of food safety, quality, and continuous improvement under the GFSI guidelines.
b. Develops policies/procedures governing environmental, safety and distribution issues including Risk Management, Process Safety.
c. Assesses chemicals purchased comparing to EPA list/identifying hazardous chemicals and reporting appropriate information to EPS’ local fire department, local Emergency Planning Committee.
d. Develops procedures for safe handling of hazardous materials/training key personnel to respond correctly including wearing proper equipment/cleaning up in compliance with regulatory laws.
e. Directs distribution operations to ensure achievement of cost, productivity, accuracy, or timeliness objectives.
f. Meets with consultants to formulate strategies, monitor projects, and ensure goals are met.
g. Evaluates/assesses new regulatory mandates and their impact on Mays Chemical Company. Enforces compliance as necessary.
h. Oversees the environmental strategic support for the company.
i. Represents the company at hearing for various regulatory issues working with NACD to raise level of conscientiousness of the company.
j. Backup to the VP of Supply Chain Management (SQF Practitioner), Production Manager (SQF Practitioner) Warehouse Manager (SQF Practitioner), Warehouse Supervisors (SQF Practitioners) (NJ) and (71 st Street) Quality Assurance Food Safety Mgr. (SQF Practitioner).
k. Performs other related duties as assigned by management

Minimum Qualifications/ Education / Experience / Certifications

  1. Education:
    a. Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year college or university in Business, or related field, or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
    b. Computer skills required: Accounting Software; Contract Management Systems; Development Software; Human Resource Systems; Inventory Software; Microsoft Office Suite; Payroll Systems; Project Management Software)

  2. Experience
    a. Five (5) plus years of experience in a chemical distribution, manufacturing environment preferred.
    b. Three (3) plus years of experience in operating a commercial /for-hire or private fleet operation.
    c. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and time management
    d. Experience directly managing others required
    e) Possesses superior working relationship with all levels of management and company personnel.
    f. Demonstrates understanding of regulatory laws and ability to keep up with new/changed laws.
    g. Provides clear/effective training of company personnel and successfully educates personnel on environmental, safety and distribution issues.
    h. Clearly identifies potential environmental and safety hazards and provides preventive measures to ensure safety of company personnel.
    Successfully manages/prioritizes multiple projects within conflicting operational demands.
    i. Possesses strong analytical and problem identification/resolution skills.
    j. Demonstrates decision-making skills and ability to work effectively under pressure within tight deadline constraints.
    k. Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
    l. Self-direct, self-motivated and stays abreast of current environmental, safety and distribution standards/policies/procedures/regulations, etc.
    m. Must be able to keep up-to-date and comply with federal, state, and local legal and regulatory requirements and advise management when necessary.
    n. Experience in developing and/or delivering training programs is desired.

  3. Systems Experience
    a. Basic computer skills such as Windows, Word, and Excel.

  4. Licenses / Certifications:
    a. Valid driver license with a good driving record.

  5. Language:
    a. Proficiency in English required.
    Work Environment / Conditions
