Northern Star (Pogo) LLC is looking for a Human Resources Leave & Administrative Specialist to join our Human Resources (HR) Team and support our Pogo operation in Alaska.

What's the role?
- The Human Resources Leave & Administrative Specialist reports to the Human Resources Manager, and the primary role will be responsible for supporting the HR Team in performing administrative and HR Functions within the Human Resources Department.
Duties:
- Help coordinate employee leave, including FMLA, Workers' Compensation, and other Company leave programs.
- Track leave dates, required paperwork, return-to-work documentation, and follow-up items.
- Communicate with employees about routine leave paperwork and next steps.
- Keep employee, leave, and personnel records accurate, organized, and confidential.
- Enter and update employee information in ADP and other HR systems.
- Help employees complete HR forms and navigate routine HR systems and processes.
- Support Workers' Compensation documentation and recordkeeping.
- Assist the HR team with onboarding, offboarding, transfers, and employee changes.
- Provide administrative support for benefits and annual enrollment activities.
- Prepare basic reports, spreadsheets, trackers, and employee documentation.
- Review and process routine HR invoices and paperwork.
- Follow up with employees, managers, payroll, and other departments when information or documentation is needed.
- Support HR projects, recruiting events, career fairs, and employee activities as needed.
- Recognize when an employee question or concern needs to be escalated to an HR Advisor or HR Manager.
- Maintain confidentiality when working with employee, medical, leave, and personnel information.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; an associate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is a plus.
- At least 1 year of administrative, HR Assistant, HR Coordinator, or similar experience.
- Experience with FMLA, Workers' Compensation, HR systems, or the mining/resources industry is helpful, but not required.
- Previous HR, leave, payroll, or employee recordkeeping experience is preferred.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Suite, primarily Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Experience using ADP or a similar Human Resources (HR) system is preferred.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to handle confidential information professionally.
- Comfortable working independently while knowing when to ask questions or escalate an issue.
- Dependable, team-oriented, and willing to learn.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to successfully complete a background check and post-offer physical.
The Details:
This is a full-time position located in the Fairbanks office, working 5 days on, 2 days off (Monday - Friday 8:00AM-4:30PM), with occasional travel to the Pogo mine site or other locations as needed. The successful candidate must live in the Fairbanks North Star Borough area.
