Summary

This seasonal position is responsible for the maintenance of municipal parks and cemeteries. Duties performed are of a manual and unskilled nature requiring physical endurance and a willingness to perform menial tasks. Direct supervision is received from higher level personnel. Related work is performed as required.

CITY RESIDENCY IS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION

Examples of duties

• Trims hedges, and prunes trees, using hand tools;
• Mows lawns, using hand or power-driven lawnmower;
• Cleans up glass and litter;
• Empties trash receptacles;
• Repairs and paints benches and tables;
• Operates a variety of grounds maintenance equipment (mowers, leaf and snow blowers, sod cutters, string trimmers, etc.);
• Performs minor preventative maintenance on play apparatus, and other park or cemetery equipment;
• Removes snow from walkways, steps, and driveways;
• May assist in preparing, digging, and filling of grave sites;
• May assist in preparing and setting foundations for headstones.

Qualifications

Three (3) months of full-time paid experience (or its part-time equivalent) in a position related to exterior maintenance of grounds, plantings, or recreation areas.
