Electrician

Summary

The Electrician installs, inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, maintains, and replaces electrical wiring, components, systems, and equipment aboard vessels and within the shipyard. This position works with AC/DC electrical systems and marine electrical equipment, including lighting, pumps, motors, generators, control systems, navigation equipment, radios, electrical panels, and related components. The Electrician works safely and efficiently to support vessel construction, maintenance, repair, upgrades, and operational readiness.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Plan and complete electrical wire runs, including pulling, routing, securing, labeling, and terminating wiring.
• Install, repair, replace, and maintain electrical components, equipment, fixtures, and systems.
• Install and maintain vessel lighting and electrical components.
• Build and install brackets, supports, and mounting systems for electrical components.
• Build, wire, install, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical panels.
• Troubleshoot AC/DC electrical systems and identify electrical faults and failures.
• Use appropriate electrical testing and measuring equipment, including voltmeters, ohmmeters, and other diagnostic tools.
• Inspect electrical systems and equipment to identify potential problems and determine appropriate repairs.
• Repair or replace electrical parts, components, wiring, and systems as necessary.
• Assist with electrical upgrades, modifications, installations, and vessel improvement projects.
• Maintain and troubleshoot generators and associated electrical systems.
• Work with marine electrical and electronic systems and equipment.
• Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, plans, and technical documentation.
• Follow established maintenance schedules and complete routine and annual electrical maintenance.
• Accurately document work performed, repairs completed, parts used, and other required maintenance information.
• Follow project specifications, work instructions, company policies, safety procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate with supervisors, other trades, vessel personnel, and project team members to complete assigned work.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Identify safety concerns, equipment issues, and potential electrical hazards and communicate them to the appropriate supervisor.
• Safely operate tools, machinery, vehicles, and equipment necessary to perform assigned duties.
• Support other shipyard, vessel maintenance, and electrical projects as assigned.
• Perform other duties and special projects as required by the business.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an electrical apprenticeship program or equivalent combination of education and hands-on electrical experience.
• Experience working with marine, industrial, commercial, or similar electrical systems.
• Working knowledge of AC/DC electrical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Ability to safely use electrical hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and related machinery.
• Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems and identify problems using appropriate diagnostic methods.
• Valid U.S. driver's license and clean driving record.
• Must pass applicable security background check and DOT drug test requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Journeyman-level electrical experience or certification.
• Marine electrical experience.
• Experience working aboard vessels.
• Experience with generators, motors, pumps, controls, and electrical panels.
• Experience with marine electronics and navigation-related electrical systems.
• Five or more years of electrical maintenance or related experience.

• Work is performed in the tool room, warehouse, parts storage areas, and active shipyard environment.
• Regular exposure to moderate-to-loud noise levels, weather, machinery, welding operations, vehicles, and other industrial hazards.
• May work around forklifts, cranes, heavy equipment, vessels, and material-handling operations.
• Ability to lift and carry tools, parts, and materials as required.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, climb ladders, and move throughout the facility.
• Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment.

• Ability to regularly lift and carry tools, parts, and materials weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally handle heavier items using appropriate equipment or assistance, as required by the job.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, climb ladders, and move throughout the facility.
• Ability to walk on uneven deck surfaces, including crossing from vessel to vessel.
• Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to travel occasionally between company locations, if required.
