Duracell has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Manager, Test Engineering to lead our team of engineers in China developing and validating new products and features in our expanding Data as a Service (DaaS)/IoT solution. We are looking for a seasoned engineering leader with a security-first mindset, expert testing skills, strong coding skills, and a passion for leading. The ideal candidate will have a specialty in developing and securing solutions for IoT RF-enabled SoC hardware platforms, diverse sensor integration, data pipelines and computation platforms, third-party API integrations, and mobile and web-based applications.
This role seeks an individual with expert experience in testing, test automation, system troubleshooting, test strategy development, software and firmware development, security vulnerability and penetration testing, and the ability to create a strong culture of ownership, trust and collaboration. You will lead a squad of developers and test engineers and serve as the site-level technical leader for the InSite test engineering practice, driving execution and delivery of features to support the InSite product roadmap while ensuring our solution meets product and security requirements, the highest standards of reliability, quality, and performance, and enhances the user experience. You will collaborate with team leads/stakeholders in other InSite R&D locations to foster an engineering culture that integrates AI-assisted development and testing as standard practice, using tools like Claude Code, for code generation, refactoring, and testing, while maintaining rigorous human-in-the-loop system design and code review.
You take great pleasure in collaborating closely with product owners, scrum masters, and skilled and considerate developers and testers. You are very tactical and will roll up your sleeves at a moment’s notice to do whatever it takes to help your squad and the company meet delivery schedules while ensuring solution quality and performance.
This role is based in Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, PRC, offers remote work options, and up to 20% travel (domestic and international). This role requires strong bilingual proficiency in Mandarin and English. You will participate in daily overlap hours with the USA team 7:00-11:00 PM China Standard Time with the possibility for the overlap to be reduced after 6 months of employment.
- Lead a team of development and test engineers and actively contribute to product development activities, including test strategy, test automation strategy, scripting, test execution and feature definition.
- Establish and evolve Agile processes that support in sprint and N+1 sprint deliveries.
- Evaluate and create feature requirements to enhance usability, testability, observability and traceability in the lab and in the field.
- Perform root cause analyses cross-functionally and identify and implement preventative quality processes in development and test.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers across the broader InSite R&D organization, fostering a culture of collaboration, ownership, innovation, and continuous learning.
- Establish development and test systems and networks to support full system test including device testing via remote access.
- Demonstrate ability reading and understanding product requirements, common development, debugging and test tools.
- Manage multiple projects and tasks while effectively working under time constraints to meet deadlines.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure integrated and effective solutions.
- Plan and design lab infrastructure and oversee operation.
- Review team KPIs and improvement plans to achieve incremental improvement.
- Define and enforce team norms for AI-assisted coding, including review requirements for AI-generated code, especially in critical paths.
- Evaluate and pilot new AI tools and make adoption/rollout decisions for the team in compliance with Duracell standards for AI-usage.
- Coach engineers on effective and responsible use of AI tools, including where they accelerate work and where they introduce risk (i.e., security, licensing, hallucinated logic, over-reliance).
- Balance team velocity gains from AI tooling against long-term codebase health, technical debt, and maintainability.
- Partner with security/compliance to ensure AI tool usage meets data handling and IP requirements.
- Track and report on how AI tooling is affecting team throughput, code quality, and onboarding time for new hires.
- Stay current on the AI tooling landscape and advocate for adoption or sunset of tools based on measurable impact.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in DaaS and/or IoT systems new product introduction (NPI) and sustaining with a strong emphasis on data processing and associated communication protocols.
• 10+ years of experience testing embedded systems.
• 5+ years of experience testing cloud-based systems.
• 5+ years of familiarity with security protocols, best practices, and security vulnerability and penetration testing for DaaS and/or IoT systems.
• Experience with Python, Appium, Selenium, Robot Framework or similar.
• 4+ years developing processes and implementing metrics management.
• Strong coding skills with 5+ years of experience in the Python programming language.
• In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with debugging and resolving findings from security penetration and vulnerability testing for DaaS/IoT solutions.
• Experience with IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi, BLE, and RF technologies.
• Familiarity with IoT systems, data processing, associated communication protocols (i.e., TCP, UDP, etc) and serialized data structures (i.e., JSON, Protobuf, etc.).
• Experience in debugging and problem-solving in a firmware and software development context.
• Ability to evaluate and enhance solution performance, especially in real-time operating environments.
• Experience using AI-assisted coding tools in a professional setting, with the judgment to critically evaluate AI-generated code rather than accept it uncritically.
• Experience using AI tools to accelerate debugging, log analysis, and root-cause investigation.
• Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and work under tight deadlines.
• Demonstrated experience directing or leading development execution for large, complex projects or programs, with accountability for overall program design and outcomes.
• Experience mentoring, developing, or training other engineers in technical areas.
• Proven ability to represent the function across Segments/Sectors and with external partners, and to serve as a recognized subject-matter expert influencing technical direction with internal and external stakeholders.
• Proven track record of building, mentoring and leading development and test teams.
• Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Familiarity with FreeRTOS or similar real-time operating systems.
• Additional programming language skills (embedded C, Rust, C++, C#, etc.) beneficial for IoT development, data pipelines, and computation platforms.
• Knowledge of power optimization techniques for battery-operated devices.
• Experience with DevOps (ADO) or Jira.
• Experience with continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
