About the Role
We are looking for a passionate Game Designer - Gameplay to join EA SPORTS FC Mobile, responsible for designing and refining the core gameplay experience of our mobile football game. You will work closely with producers, engineers, animators, UX, and economy teams to bring the authentic feel and competitive depth of real football to players around the world on mobile devices.
Responsibilities
- Core Mechanics Design: Design and iterate on core action mechanics such as shooting, passing, dribbling, defending, and goalkeeping, ensuring responsive, deep, and satisfying controls on both touchscreen and controller.
- Systems Design: Design and maintain gameplay systems including player attributes, skill moves, tactical systems, and AI behavior, ensuring balance and cohesion across systems.
- Prototyping & Validation: Rapidly build gameplay prototypes and validate design hypotheses through playtesting and data analysis, iterating continuously.
- Documentation: Produce clear design documents, mechanic rules, and tuning parameters that enable cross-functional teams to understand and implement your vision.
- Game Feel Tuning: Partner with animation, physics, and engineering teams to polish control response, animation transitions, and feedback, elevating the overall game feel.
- Balancing & Tuning: Adjust gameplay values and difficulty curves based on player behavior data and competitive fairness.
- Authenticity: Study real football rules, tactics, and player characteristics, translating them into gameplay mechanics that are fun, accessible, and deep.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in game design gameplay, with at least one shipped title.
- Deep understanding of core gameplay and control design for action or sports/competitive games.
- Familiarity with mobile interaction constraints and design techniques, and a strong grasp of mobile players' control habits.
- Rapid prototyping skills (e.g., Unity/Unreal Blueprints, or in-engine scripting/visual tools).
- Solid data-analysis skills, with the ability to drive design decisions with data.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills in both English and Chinese, able to collaborate effectively across functions and languages.
- A genuine passion for and understanding of football, familiar with real tactics and match rhythm.
